Abstract Chromium (Cr) is one of heavy metals that extremely dangerous to the ecosystem, especially plants as it has a detrimental influence on numerous physiological and metabolic pathways, which in turn affects plant growth, development, nutrient-taking capacity. The application arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) fungi or glycine betaine (GB) was widely studied regarding their potential alleviate Cr toxicity. However, limited information documented combined use. A greenhouse experiment conducted study ameliorative effects AM GB (50 mM) foliar spray either individually combination fenugreek ( Trigonella foenum-graecum L.) upon 200 mg kg −1 stress. Results showed separate markedly alleviated toxicity shoot height, root length, total fresh dry weights Cr-stress indices plants, with more obvious alleviation dual applications. significant increase chlorophyll (32.31, 14.51 44.06%) validated effectiveness AM, 50 mM + Cr-stressed compared stressed one. stress significantly increased arbuscules colonization roots trigonella by 43.16%. extraordinary result dependency (120.40%) those were not (73.16%). reduced Cr-induced malondialdehyde, Chl, growth attributes, proline, protein, free amino acids sugars respective controls. counteracted alterations peroxidase ascorbate activities shoots. These findings demonstrated that, comparison individual applications, use effective will provide novel perspectives for reducing toxicity, boost tolerance.
