Mindfulness-based intervention (MBI) has been applied in behavioral addiction studies recent years. However, few empirical using MBI have conducted for smartphone addiction, which is prevalent among Chinese university students. The aim of this study was to investigate the effectiveness a group mindfulness-based cognitive-behavioral (GMCI) on sample students.Students with were divided into control (n = 29) and an 41). students received 8-week GMCI. Smartphone evaluated scores from Mobile Phone Internet Addiction Scale (MPIAS) self-reported use time, measured at baseline (1st week, T1), post-intervention (8th T2), first follow-up (14th T3), second (20th T4).Twenty-seven each completed follow-up. time MPIAS significantly decreased T1 T3 group. Compared group, had less T2, T3, T4 lower T3.This pilot demonstrated that GMCI could alleviate

Abstract Background Over the past decade, smartphone use has become widespread amongst today’s children and young people (CYP) which parallels increases in poor mental health this group. Simultaneously, media concern abounds about existence of ‘smartphone addiction’ or problematic use. There been much recent research concerning prevalence is who smartphones, how syndrome relates to outcomes, but not synthesized critically evaluated. Aims To conduct a systematic review meta-analysis examine PSU quantify association with harms. Methods A search strategy using Medical Subject Headings was developed adapted for eight databases between January 1, 1st 2011 October 15th 2017. No language restriction applied. Of 924 studies identified, 41 were included review, three cohort 38 cross sectional studies. The outcomes self-reported: depression; anxiety; stress; sleep quality; decreased educational attainment, according an priori protocol. Results 41,871 CYP, 55% female. median CYP 23.3% (14.0–31.2%). associated increased odds depression (OR = 3.17;95%CI 2.30–4.37; I 2 78%); anxiety 3.05 95%CI 2.64–3.53; 0%); higher perceived stress 1.86;95%CI 1.24–2.77; 65%); poorer quality 2.60; 95%CI; 1.39–4.85, 78%). Conclusions reported approximately one every four accompanied by health. evolving public that requires greater study determine boundary helpful harmful technology Policy guidance needed outline harm reduction strategies.

The aim of the current study was to investigate prevalence smartphone addiction factors male female undergraduates. This cross-sectional conducted 2016 included 1441 undergraduate students at Wannan Medical College, China. Smartphone Addiction Scale short version (SAS-SV) used assess among students, using accepted cut-offs. Participants' demographic, usage, psycho-behavioral data were collected. Multivariate logistic regression models seek associations between independent variables males females, separately. The participants 29.8% (30.3% 29.3% females). Factors game apps, anxiety, poor sleep quality. Significant multimedia applications, social networking services, depression, quality.Smartphone common medical college investigated. This article provides a systematic review of existing research on problematic smartphone use (PSU) to guide other researchers in search relevant studies, and propose areas for future research. In total, 293 studies were analyzed leading the development an overview model field PSU, presenting findings demographic factors, explanations why this becomes problematic, consequences how such can be corrected. addition, we considered which contexts, with methods, theoretical lenses stream has been studied date. Smartphone is most often explained by design, users' emotional health their ability control use. Our suggests that people who are young, female, highly educated more prone PSU. Emotional issues frequently identified consequence Strategies correcting PSU fall into three categories: information-enhancing, capacity-enhancing, behavior reinforcement strategies. The conducted using quantitative surveys university college participants considering personal Whereas variety frameworks have adopted investigate they related identifying factors explaining use, seldom analyze findings. Prior research has found that psychopathology constructs such as depression and anxiety are associated with problematic use of Facebook (PFU). In the present study, we examined a structural equation model whereby depression, social lower life satisfaction predicted PFU severity, while analyzing mediating variables including rumination, fear missing out (FoMO), frequency use, well age gender covariates.Participants were 296 college students administered web survey instruments measuring these constructs.Modeling results demonstrate FoMO rumination significantly related to severity. was each mediated relations between severity. Results discussed in context prior work on excessive technology several relevant theoretical frameworks.

The purpose of this study was to carry out a review observational studies that consider links between mobile phone use and mental health from psychological or behavioral perspective. Systematic literature searches in PubMed PsycINFO for articles published until 2017 were done. Exclusion criteria included: papers considered radiofrequency fields, attention, safety, relational consequences, sexual behavior, cyberbullying, reviews, qualitative, case experimental studies. A total 4738 screened by title abstract, 404 retrieved full text, 290 included. Only 5% had any longitudinal design. Self-reporting the dominating method measurement. One third included children youth. majority adult populations consisted university students and/or self-selected participants. main research results associations frequent outcomes, such as depressive symptoms sleep problems. Mobile at bedtime associated with, e.g., shorter duration lower quality. “Problematic use” (dependency) with several negative outcomes. In conclusion, adverse outcomes are found take perspective on exposure. However, more high quality needed order draw valid conclusions about mechanisms causal directions associations.

Background and aims Despite many positive benefits, mobile phone use can be associated with harmful detrimental behaviors. The aim of this study was twofold: to examine (a) cross-cultural patterns perceived dependence on phones in ten European countries, first, grouped four different regions (North: Finland UK; South: Spain Italy; East: Hungary Poland; West: France, Belgium, Germany, Switzerland), second by country, (b) how socio-demographics, geographic differences, usage patterns, activities predicted dependence. Methods A sample 2,775 young adults (aged 18–29 years) were recruited Universities who participated an online survey. Measures included socio-demographic variables, use, the subscale a short version Problematic Mobile Phone Use Questionnaire (PMPUQ; Billieux, Van der Linden, & Rochat, 2008). Results from Northern Southern reported heaviest phones, whereas less prevalent Eastern region. However, proportion highly dependent users more elevated UK, France. Regression analysis identified several risk factors for increased scores PMPUQ subscale, namely using daily, being female, engaging social networking, playing video games, shopping viewing TV shows through Internet, chatting messaging, downloading-related activities. Discussion conclusions Self-reported is influenced frequency specific application usage.
