Fatigue, a state of prolonged tiredness that cannot be alleviated through rest, is twice as likely to affect women than men. To account for women's higher rates fatigue, we examined three factors which have both exhibited consistent sex differences in the literature and been linked fatigue: stress, sleep, repetitive negative thinking (RNT). In first study, 193 undergraduate students reported their levels sleep quality RNT over past month. Mediation analysis showed effect on fatigue was partially mediated impact stress but not RNT. second 205 underwent same procedures Study 1 test whether findings from study were replicable an independent sample. These then sent seven follow-ups across 2 weeks measure momentary daily previous night's quality. mediation analysis, did mediate fatigue; however, all other pathways found replicated. With regard prospective measurements, greater even when accounting poorer predicted at population individual levels. Taken together, these suggest could part driven by stress.
