Objective The present study prospectively examined dynamic associations among sleep, emotion dysregulation, and desire to live during the perinatal transition, as it was theorized that these factors may contribute emergence of postpartum suicide risk. Method Ninety-four women ( M age = 29.2 years; 23.4% Latina) wore wrist actigraphs completed twice daily surveys for 7 days third trimester pregnancy, 6 weeks postpartum, 4 months postpartum. Despite extensive research efforts to mechanistically understand late-onset Alzheimer's disease (LOAD) and other complex mental health disorders, curative treatments remain elusive. We emphasize the multiscale multicausality inherent LOAD, highlighting interplay between interconnected pathophysiological processes risk factors. Systems thinking methods, such as causal loop diagrams systems dynamic models, offer powerful means capture study this complexity. In recent studies, we developed validated a diagram system dynamics model using multiple longitudinal data sets, enabling simulation of personalized interventions on various modifiable factors in LOAD. The results indicate that targeting like sleep disturbance depressive symptoms could be promising yield synergistic benefits. Furthermore, showed significant potential, with top-ranked intervention strategies differing significantly across individuals. argue approaches can open new prospects for multifactorial precision medicine. future research, may also guide structured, model-driven collection interactions LOAD's multicausality, facilitating theory development possibly resulting effective prevention treatment options.

How important is the timing of pretreatment evaluation? If we consider mental health to be a relatively fixed condition, specific (e.g., day, hour) evaluation immaterial and often determined on basis technical considerations. Indeed, fundamental assumption underlying vast majority psychotherapy research practice that state can captured in one-dimensional snapshot. this assumption, 80 years empirical practice, incorrect, it may help explain why for decades failed rise above 50% efficacy rate treatment mental-health disorders, especially depression, heterogeneous disorder leading cause disability worldwide. Early warning signals are considered to be generic indicators of a system's accumulating instability and 'critical slowing down' prior substantial abrupt transitions between stable states. In clinical psychology, these have been proposed enable personalized predictions the impending onset, recurrence remission mental health problems before changes in symptoms occur, thereby facilitating timely therapeutic interventions. this Perspective, we question idea that early person's emotion time series can predict symptoms. Using empirical findings date theoretical methodological limitations inherent their application, argue there is little support for use based on critical down psychology. Deepening our knowledge foundations predictors improving measurement key clarifying potential boundaries psychopathology. It necessary build insights gained from signal studies improve evaluate alternative methods, keeping mind applications require prospective, real-time not only indicate whether, but also when, specific person likely experience health. symptom provide warnings risk recovery. We offer a framework for the design and use of Ambient Smart Environments (ASEs) preventive mental health care support. Drawing from Complex Systems Theory (CST) 'E' Cognitive Science (ECS), we claim that ASEs have potential to act in capacity support good health, i.e. supporting dynamics avoid so-called "struck states" (which are, according CST, thought generally underpin forms psychopathology). Here, frame our discussion with what has recently been termed "mind-technology problem". define characterise ASE systems, present some examples, briefly survey existing theoretical work. After introducing essential CST terminology, paper goes on apply explain developmental adaptation continuously changing (smart) environments.
