Phenotypic Profiling of Selected Cellulolytic Strains to Develop a Crop Residue-Decomposing Bacterial Consortium

Slow
decomposition
rates
of
cereal
crop
residues
can
lead
to
agronomic
challenges,
such
as
nutrient
immobilization,
delayed
soil
warming,
and
increased
pest
pressures.
In
this
regard,
microbial
inoculation
with
efficient
strains
offers
a
viable
eco-friendly
solution
accelerating
the
process
residues.
However,
often
focuses
mostly
on
selecting
microorganisms
based
appropriate
enzymic
capabilities
neglects
metabolic
versatility
required
utilize
both
structural
non-structural
components
Therefore,
study
aimed
address
these
limitations
by
assessing
profiles
five
previously
identified
cellulolytic
bacterial
strains,
including
Bacillus
pumilus
1G17,
Micromonospora
chalcea
1G49,
mobilis
5G17,
Streptomyces
canus
1TG5,
achromogenes
3TG21
using
Biolog
Phenotype
Microarray
analysis.
Moreover,
evaluated
impact
wheat
straw
single
consortium
organic
carbon
nitrogen
content
in
pot
experiment.
Results
revealed
that,
beyond
core
subset
12
sources,
exhibited
diverse
capacities
utilizing
106
sources.
All
demonstrated
effective
biomass
degradation
compared
negative
control,
significant
differences
detected
only
oil
seed
rape
biodegradation
estimations.
Furthermore,
inoculated
showed
increase
after
180
days
Overall,
findings
underscore
critical
role
profiling
gaining
deeper
understanding
addressing
complexities
residue
composition
environmental
variability.
