Abstract Background The escalating globalization of health assessments underscores a pivotal challenge: Do Quality Life (QoL) instruments, developed primarily in Western contexts, accurately reflect the perspectives non-Western populations? This study evaluates alignment EQ-5D and EQ-HWB items with QoL dimensions identified Chinese literature, compares perceptions between residents those living abroad who may be influenced by values. Methods employed three successive rounds participant recruitment to refine concept mapping process. Initially, 13 bilingual experts Netherlands piloted methodology, providing feedback on item translation expression. Subsequently, 18 expatriates Netherlands, partial education abroad, reviewed revised materials represent culture. Finally, 20 native residents, were born educated China, formed target group. Utilizing from pilot stage, pool 54 derived plus an additional eight EQ-HWB, assembled. Group Concept Mapping (GCM) method was used, participants organizing their interrelationships. Data analyzed via Groupwisdom™, online tool supporting multidimensional scaling (MDS) cluster analysis, culminating visual rating maps that highlighted associations groupings. Results In five-cluster MDS map identified: personal abilities, family society, physical health, mental self-cognition (stress value: 0.183), prioritized. Abroad, four clusters appeared: social connections, daily activities, function 0.185), prioritizing connections. missed "family society" China "social connections" abroad. contrast, covered all both groups.
