Este artículo explora las posibilidades heurísticas de tratar conjuntamente migraciones internas e internacionales, algo descuidado por los estudios migratorios que han tendido a analizarlas separado. Centrado en el caso Barcelona desde 1960 hasta 2020, estudio conjuga análisis fuentes secundarias y trabajos campo etnográfico realizados autores dos barrios la ciudad. Se muestra cómo ambos tipos movilidades sido “migrantizadas”, es decir, sujetas una condición social distintiva remite procesos subalterización estos grupos sometidos sociedades residencia. Si bien generalización resultados otros casos requiere mayor investigación, se aportan evidencias sólidas del carácter contingente categoría inmigrante analíticas explorar fronterización —construcción, deconstrucción reconstrucción fronteras (boundaries)— generan torno movilidad poblaciones.

Why Has Migration Research So Little Impact? Examining Knowledge Practices in Migration Policy Making and Migration Studies DOI

Scientific and expert knowledge on migration is often disregarded in policy making plays only a minor role public debates - despite the massive growth institutionalization of research recent years. This article interrogates limited impact research(ers) by examining practices both academia. We first look “outwards” at making. Revisiting integrating hitherto separate scholarship use production, we identify main mechanisms that characterize actors, such as individual institutional self-preservation, issue politicization, or unequal power dynamics. then mobilize these insights to “inwards” our own studies, showing similar shape how scholars produce knowledge. In particular, fragmentation studies into ever-more fine-grained sub-fields, each with their strategies little dialogue across them. fact, rather than acknowledging complementarity, sub-fields tend delegitimize other's efforts achieve socio-political change. argue “academic tribalism” creates self-sabotaging dynamic undermines field's wider credibility impact. Ultimately, hope this paper empowers researchers act upon diagnosis inspires collective discussion foster more mutually-reinforcing strengthen political life.
