The purpose of the study was to investigate association between handgrip strength and incidence work limitations in European adults aged 50 older. We conducted a prospective cohort among older from 27 countries Israel. Data were collected Survey Health, Ageing Retirement Europe (SHARE) waves 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 7. Handgrip measured using hand dynamometer (Smedley, S Dynamometer, TTM) participants replied questions about limitations. Cox regression for statistical analyses. A total 70,820 (mean age 61 ± 7.7 years; 54.3 % women) followed during mean 3.8 2.9 years. fully adjusted model showed that with low (<16 kg women <27 men) had significantly higher risk compared normal values (hazard ratio: 1.36; 95 confidence interval: 1.28-1.44). Kaplan-Meier trajectories revealed survival probability experience category 20 lower than most follow-up period. identified level as factor years or This could be used an accessible measure screen workers at developing

Abstract Background Little is known about the dose and pattern of moderate-to-vigorous physical activity (MVPA) to prevent depression. We aimed assess prospective association accelerometer-derived MVPA with risk diagnosed Methods included 74,715 adults aged 40–69 years from UK Biobank cohort who were free severe disease at baseline participated in accelerometer measurements (mean age 55.2 [SD 7.8]; 58% women). was derived through 1-week wrist-worn accelerometry. Diagnosed depression defined by hospitalization ICD-10 codes F32.0-F32.A. Restricted cubic splines Cox regression determined incident Results Over a median 7.9-year follow-up, there 3,089 (4.1%) cases Higher doses curvilinearly associated lower risk, largest minute-per-minute added benefits occurring between 5 (HR 0.99 [95% CI 0.96–0.99]) 280 0.67 0.60–0.74]) minutes per week (reference: 0 minutes). Conclusion Regardless pattern, higher curvilinear manner, greatest incremental benefit minute during first 4–5 h week. Optimal occurred around 15 h/week.

Background/Objectives: Depression is influenced by a multitude of interconnected factors, including cancer and handgrip strength. The purpose our study to examine how strength diagnosis are individually jointly associated with depression. Methods: An observational was employed using secondary data from the Survey Health, Aging, Retirement in Europe waves 7 8. sample comprised 641 participants (71.1 ± 7.7 years), 12 European countries. Results: Having greater odds depression (depression 2017 model: OR = 1.35, 95% CI 1.03, 1.75; 2019 1.48, 1.12, 1.95). Being higher tertile lower 2, 0.65, 0.56, 0.74 3, 0.49, 0.65; 0.74, 0.64, 0.86 0.76, 0.88). greatest reduction for found without third 2017: 0.42, 0.29, 0.61; 2019: 0.40, 0.28, 0.58). Conclusions: Both were depression, first increasing its risk latter reducing it. Individuals highest have both analyses.

ABSTRACT Background Prior research has consistently shown an association between muscle strength and various metabolic diseases. However, the relationship cognitive impairment remains elusive. Methods Using data from 2011–2014 National Health Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES), we investigated impairment. We used multivariate logistic regression, restricted cubic spline regression (RCS), threshold effects to investigate impact of on function. In addition, analyzed correlation in subgroups age, gender, race, education, smoking status, drinking hypertension, diabetes, heart disease. Results 2124 participants were ultimately included for further analysis. Multivariate trend testing, RCS analysis showed a non‐linear negative Threshold effect suggests that when reaches certain value, this undergoes significant changes. three function scoring tests, interaction was only observed racial subgroup. Conclusion This study function, which may have effect. Further longitudinal studies are needed elucidate its potential mechanisms.

Observational studies have suggested that depression is associated with sarcopenia. However, the causal relationship between and sarcopenia remains unclear. To investigate sarcopenia. We performed a Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis to identify bidirectional sarcopenia-related traits. Summary-level data independent variants used as instrumental variables came from large genome-wide association of (414055 cases 892299 controls), appendicular lean mass (ALM, 450243 participants), hand grip strength (exposure: 360000 participants; outcome: 334925 participants). We identified negative lower ALM [odds ratio (OR): 0.932, 95% confidence interval (95%CI): 0.889-0.979, P = 0.005]. In reverse MR analysis, we also observed an inverse (OR: 0.200, 95%CI: 0.108-0.370, < 0.001). Similar results were obtained in sensitivity analyses.Depression was causally related decreased muscle mass, declined might lead higher risk depression.

Abstract Background The relationship between handgrip strength (HGS) and depression in patients undergoing hemodialysis (HD) was unknown. Therefore, we aimed to clarify this association a cohort of patients. Methods HGS used as representative indicator muscle measured with handheld dynamometer. Depressive symptoms were assessed the self-reported Patient Health Questionnaire-9. A multivariable logistic regression model restricted cubic spline analysis assess depression. Results prevalence our study 34% 568 Chinese HD. Compared lowest tertiles absolute weighted HGS, highest had an approximately 59% lower [odds ratio (OR) = 0.41, 95% confidence interval (CI) 0.24–0.68; OR 95%CI (0.24–0.69)] depressive after multivariate adjustments. Besides, risk decreased by 33% (OR 0.67, 0.53–0.85) 32% 0.68, 0.54–0.85) for each standard deviation increase respectively. both increasing adjustments ( p trend < 0.05). Furthermore, linear dose-response observed nonlinearity >0.05). Conclusions This suggests that strength, simple modifiable parameter, is associated higher Considering often unrecognized or underdiagnosed HD patients, lowered should be important incentive medical staff screen

To examine the associations between muscular strength and mental health. We used baseline data of 91 cognitively healthy older adults (71.69 ± 3.91 years old, 57 % women) participating in AGUEDA randomized controlled trial. Muscular was assessed using both objective (i.e., handgrip strength, biceps curl, squats, isokinetic test) perceived International Fitness Scale) indicators. Abstract Background Depression is a multifaceted condition with high prevalence and burden to society. Handgrip strength (HGS) gait speed (GS) are indices of physical health, which linked mental health. Previous studies have shown heterogeneity among countries in the association parameters depression. In this study, we aimed investigate HGS GS depressive symptoms older adults. Methods This cross-sectional study analyzing data from Birjand Longitudinal Aging Study, cohort community-dwelling adults (≥ 60 years old). Depressive were assessed by nine-item Patient Health Questionnaire. was measured hand dynamometer sitting position, estimated 15-foot walk test at usual pace. Results Compared participants first quartile, those second quartile had significantly lower odds suffering symptoms, while not associated symptoms. A higher risk moderate related moderately severe Conclusions Our findings suggest that people residing Birjand, Iran less likely suffer than HGS.
