Abnormal trilobites from the Silurian and Devonian of Europe

Malformed trilobites have been documented in deposits ranging from the Cambrian to Permian. Continued examination of novel malformed specimens provides insight into how recovered injuries, experienced genetic abnormalities, and adapted pathological conditions. This study focuses on Silurian Devonian Europe, presenting new records of: (i) a moulting-related injury Lioharpes venulosus; (ii) malformations Calymene blumenbachii Treveropyge sp.; (iii) moulting or anomaly Scutellum (Scutellum) pardalios. Additionally, we record evidence bryozoan growth C. specimen. Our findings provide important data for contextualizing paleobiology early middle Paleozoic trilobites, especially related responses ecological pressures.
