Abstract By increasing the mean and variance of environmental temperatures, climate change has caused local extinctions range shifts that are likely to intensify over time. Previously, biologists projected impacts from acute heat tolerances adult organisms; however, this approach ignores important factors, such as cumulative damage exposure variation in tolerance among individuals different physical conditions at life stages.
