Cryptantha arenophila Rebman & M.G.Simpson (Boraginaceae) is described as new. This species restricted to sandy dunes near San Quintín, Baja California, Mexico and adjacent coastal regions. It similar the more common patula Greene in stem vestiture, calyx morphology, inflorescence morphology. differs from that having significantly larger corolla limbs narrowly oblong elliptic leaves with obtuse-rounded leaf apices, opposed linear lanceolate acute obtuse apices C. patula. In addition, nutlets of tend have numerous shorter tubercles, while those tubercles are less dense larger, although variation this needs further investigation. The dune habitats where type locality occurs currently under severe impacts animal grazing off-road traffic, necessitating conservation these

Three new species of Cryptantha from the Channel Islands southern California are described. clementina, endemic to San Clemente Island, was formerly identified as C. traskiae I.M.Johnst. It is distinct that in having a low, spreading growth habit, congested inflorescence cymules, wider corolla limbs, thicker and more swollen midrib calyx trichomes, nutlets tuberculate throughout dorsal ventral surfaces. kinkiensis, also previously intermedia (A.Gray) Greene. differs bifurcate cymules with denser, smaller tubercles. catalinensis, Santa Catalina either or wigginsii nutlet apically low-tuberculate glabrate basally, opposed densely (tubercles “wart-like” generally abutted) glabrous shiny basally wigginsii. catalinensis kinkiensis somewhat similar one another, but sculpturing trichome size. We note morphological similarities some evidence for phylogenetic relatedness among traskiae, foliosa (Greene) Greene, last Guadalupe Baja California, Mexico. point out Detailed molecular studies needed evaluate evolutionary biogeographic history these insular species.

Premise Distyly, a plant breeding system characterized by two floral morphs that have reciprocal positioning of anthers and stigmas, is known from at least 27 angiosperm families, making it an excellent example convergent evolution. The various manners in which patterns development produce the distinct anther stigma heights each morph remain largely unexplored developmental evolutionary perspectives. Methods In 15 species representing 12 origins distyly, lengths organs throughout were examined using light microscopy. Patterns organ determined compared among species. Family‐level phylogenies distylous relatives reconstructed, ancestral herkogamy resolved. Results Differences between resulted leading to positions characterizing distyly. Distylous evolved ancestors with different types herkogamy, approach lack resolved most frequently. Conclusions Seven are only one species, three other described pairs close relatives. common pattern development, seven genera, involves for heights, intermorph growth rates differ during later development. This subclass Lamiidae, suggesting canalized within taxon. Among same type can give rise

High-throughput sequencing, when combined with taxonomic expertise, is a powerful tool to refine and advance classification, including at the species level. In present work, new species, Plantago campestris , described out of P. commersoniana complex, based on phylogenomic morphological evidence. The main characters that distinguish from are glabrous posterior sepals slightly broader leaves. known only three localities, all in natural high-elevation grasslands Paraná Santa Catarina states, southern Brazil. According IUCN criteria should be assessed as Endangered (EN). We field photographs related we provide an identification key previously included within circumscription .
