Abstract Background Poststroke rehabilitation reportedly improves functional outcomes and minimizes disability. However, previous studies have demonstrated conflicting results regarding the effects of therapy on post-stroke mortality. Therefore, we aimed to investigate association between within first six months after stroke long-term all-cause mortality in patients with using data from Korean National Health Insurance System. Methods A total 10,974 newly diagnosed ICD-10 codes (I60-I64) 2013 2019 were enrolled followed-up for until 2019. Post-stroke categorized into three groups according frequency therapy: no therapy, ≤ 40 sessions, > sessions. Cox proportional hazard models used assess risk stratified by disability severity. Results Higher was associated significantly lower comparison (HR=0.88, 95% CI 0.79-0.9 9), especially among individuals severe (HR=0.74, 0.62-0.87). An inverse number sessions identified a multivariate regression model restricted cubic splines. In context type, higher reduced rates compared only hemorrhagic (HR=0.60, 0.49-0.74). While socioeconomic factors not mortality, older age, male sex, pneumonia increased risk, regardless Conclusions onset seems play substantial role reducing stroke. is recommended patients, particularly those

Stroke remains a leading cause of disability worldwide, underscoring the urgent need for novel and innovative therapeutic strategies to enhance neuroprotection, support regeneration, improve functional recovery. Previous research has shown that phytochemicals such as curcumin, tannic acid, gallic ginsenosides, resveratrol, isorhamnetin display extensive neuroprotective properties, including antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-apoptotic effects. These natural compounds could also promote neurogenesis, angiogenesis, preservation blood–brain barrier. Despite their promising bioactivities, clinical application is often limited by poor solubility, bioavailability, suboptimal pharmacokinetics. Hydrogels offer solution encapsulating controlling gradual release these directly at site injury. Recent advancements in hydrogel formulations, constructed from biopolymers functionalized using nanotechnological approaches, significantly stability, targeted delivery phytochemicals. Controlled profiles pH-sensitive environment-responsive hydrogels ensure compounds’ effects are optimally timed with individual critical stages post-stroke repair. Moreover, scaffolds tailored material properties biocompatibility can create favorable microenvironment, reducing secondary inflammation, enhancing tissue potentially improving cognitive outcomes following stroke. This review explores potential integrating within hydrogel-based systems specifically designed The design synthesis biocompatible, biodegradable especially applications discussed. Lastly, we emphasize additional robust translatable preclinical studies.

Stroke remains the second leading cause of death and a major disability worldwide, significantly impacting individuals, families, healthcare systems. This neurological emergency can be triggered by ischemic events, including small vessel arteriolosclerosis, cardioembolism, large artery atherothromboembolism, as well hemorrhagic incidents resulting from macrovascular lesions, venous sinus thrombosis, or vascular malformations, to significant neuronal damage. The resultant motor impairment, cognitive dysfunction, emotional disturbances underscore urgent need for effective therapeutic interventions. Recent advancements in biomaterials, particularly hydrogels, offer promising new avenues stroke management. Hydrogels, composed three-dimensional networks hydrophilic polymers, are notable their ability absorb retain substantial amounts water. Commonly used polymers hydrogel formulations include natural like alginate, chitosan, collagen, synthetic such polyethylene glycol (PEG), polyvinyl alcohol (PVA), polyacrylamide. Their customizable characteristics—such porosity, swelling behavior, mechanical strength, degradation rates—make hydrogels ideal biomedical applications, drug delivery, cell tissue engineering, controlled release agents. review comprehensively explores hydrogel-based approaches both therapy, elucidating mechanisms which provide neuroprotection. It covers application delivery systems, role reducing inflammation secondary injury, potential support neurogenesis angiogenesis. also discusses current technology challenges translating these innovations research into clinical practice. Additionally, it emphasizes limited number trials utilizing therapies addresses associated limitations constraints, underscoring further this field.

Abstract Injuries affecting the central nervous system may disrupt neural pathways to muscles causing motor deficits. Yet brain exhibits sensorimotor rhythms (SMRs) during movement intents, and brain-computer interfaces (BCIs) can decode SMRs control assistive devices promote functional recovery. However, non-invasive BCIs suffer from instability of SMRs, requiring longitudinal training for users learn proper SMR modulation. Here, we accelerate this skill learning process by applying cervical transcutaneous electrical spinal stimulation (TESS) inhibit cortex prior upper-limb BCI training. Results support a mechanistic role cortical inhibition in significantly increasing focality strength leading accelerated healthy subjects an individual with cord injury. Improvements were observed following only two TESS sessions maintained at least one week who could not otherwise achieve control. Our findings provide promising possibilities advancing BCI-based rehabilitation.
