The phytophagous mite Tetranychus truncatus is a serious pest in East Asia but has relatively narrower host range than the urticae, which can feed on over 1200 plant species. Here, we generated high-quality chromosomal level genome of T. and compared it with that an emphasis genes related to detoxification chemoreception, explore genomic basis underlying evolution range. We also conducted population genetics analyses (in 86 females from 10 populations) transfer experiments 4 investigate transcription changes following low-quality (Solanum melongena, eggplant), established possible connections between fitness eggplant chemoreception. found fewer detoxification, transport, chemoreception particularly strong reduction gustatory receptor (GR) genes. widespread transcriptional variation among populations, varied eggplant. characterized selection detoxification-related through ω values negative correlation expression levels values. Based results, as well genetic differences identified potentially involved adaptation truncatus. Our work provides resource for this new insights into mechanisms herbivorous mites plants.

SUMMARY Non‐volatile metabolites constitute the bulk of plant biomass. From perspective plant–insect interactions, these structurally diverse compounds include nutritious core and defensive specialized metabolites. In this review, we synthesize current literature on multiple scales interactions mediated by non‐volatile At molecular level, functional genetics studies have revealed a large collection receptors targeting in model insect species agricultural pests. By contrast, examples insect‐derived molecules remain sparse. For herbivores, function beyond dichotomy metabolites, classed as nutrients, compounds. Insect feeding tends to elicit evolutionarily conserved changes metabolism, whereas its effect metabolism varies widely based interacting species. Finally, several recent demonstrated that can mediate tripartite communication community scale, facilitated physical connections established through direct root‐to‐root communication, parasitic plants, arbuscular mycorrhizae rhizosphere microbiome. Recent advances both biology will facilitate further research role mediating interactions.

Digestive physiology mediates the adaptation of phytophagous insects to host plants. In this study, digestive characteristics Hyphantria cunea larvae feeding preferences on different plants were investigated. The results showed that body weight, food utilization, and nutrient contents H. high-preference significantly higher than those low-preference However, activity larval enzymes in presented an opposite trend, as α-amylase or trypsin was observed group Upon treatment leaves with inhibitors, intake, utilization rate, conversion rate decreased all plant groups. Furthermore, comprised highly adaptable compensatory mechanisms digestion involving metabolism response enzyme inhibitors. Taken together, multiple plants, effect is important counter-defense strategy implemented by resist defense factors, especially insect

Feeding and oviposition deterrents help phytophagous insects to identify host plants. The taste organs of contain bitter gustatory receptors (GRs). To explore their function, the GRs in Plutella xylostella were analyzed. Through RNA sequencing qPCR, we detected abundant PxylGr34 transcripts larval head adult antennae. Functional analyses using Xenopus oocyte expression system 24 diverse phytochemicals showed that is tuned canonical plant hormones brassinolide (BL) 24-epibrassinolide (EBL). Electrophysiological revealed medial sensilla styloconica 4 th instar larvae are responsive BL EBL. Dual-choice bioassays demonstrated inhibits feeding female oviposition. Knock-down by RNAi attenuates responses BL, abolishes BL-induced inhibition. These results increase our understanding how herbivorous detect compounds deter oviposition, may be useful for designing hormone-based pest management strategies.

Rearing silkworms (Bombyx mori) using formula feed has revolutionized traditional mulberry strategies. However, low silk production efficiencies persist and have caused bottlenecks, hindering the industrial application of sericulture. Here, we investigated effects amino acid composition on yields. We showed that imbalanced acids reduced DNA proliferation, decreased Fib-H, Fib-L, P25 gene expression, mild autophagy in posterior gland, reducing cocoon shell weight ratio. When compared with leaves, Gly, Ala, Ser, Tyr percentages total were by 5.26%, while Glu Arg increased 9.56%. These changes uric several levels hemolymph feed. Further analyses Gly Thr (important synthetic sources) yields, increasing conversion to protein, urea hemolymph. Also, promoted endomitotic synthesis gland cells via phosphoinositide 3-kinase (PI3K)/Akt/target rapamycin (TOR) signaling. In this study, highlighted important role regulating yields silkworms.

There are currently four world bird lists referenced by different stakeholders including governments, academic journals, museums and citizen scientists. Consolidation of these is a conservation research priority. In reconciling lists, care must be taken to ensure agreement in taxonomic concepts—the actual groups individual organisms circumscribed given scientific epithet. Here, we compare species-level concepts for raptors across the highlighting areas disagreement. Of 665 raptor taxa observed at least once among only 453 (68%) were consistent all lists. The Howard Moore Checklist Birds World contains fewest species (528), whereas International Ornithological Community Bird List most (580) two disagreements, 67% involved owls, Indonesia was country containing disagreed upon (169). Finally, calculated amount each avian order found orders spread throughout rankings agreement. Our results emphasize need reconcile orders, highlight broad disagreements identify hotspots disagreement raptors, particular.

Many plant secondary substances are feeding deterrents for insects and play a key role in the selection of host plants. The taste sensilla phytophagous contain gustatory sensory neurons sensitive to but molecular basis deterrent chemoreception remains unknown. We investigated function Gr180, most highly expressed bitter receptor maxillary galea Helicoverpa armigera larvae. Functional analyses using Xenopus oocyte expression system two-electrode voltage clamp revealed that oocytes expressing Gr180 responded coumarin. Tip recording results showed medial styloconica maxilla fifth instar larvae exhibited electrophysiological responses Two-choice bioassays confirmed coumarin inhibited larval feeding. A homozygous mutant strain H . with truncated proteins ( −/− ) was established CRISPR-Cas9 system. were almost abolished, sinigrin strychnine also significantly decreased. Knockout alleviated effects coumarin, sinigrin, strychnine. Thus, we conclude is responding coumarin, and participates sensing These enhance our understanding mechanisms deterrents.
