The phytophagous mite Tetranychus truncatus is a serious pest in East Asia but has relatively narrower host range than the urticae, which can feed on over 1200 plant species. Here, we generated high-quality chromosomal level genome of T. and compared it with that an emphasis genes related to detoxification chemoreception, explore genomic basis underlying evolution range. We also conducted population genetics analyses (in 86 females from 10 populations) transfer experiments 4 investigate transcription changes following low-quality (Solanum melongena, eggplant), established possible connections between fitness eggplant chemoreception. found fewer detoxification, transport, chemoreception particularly strong reduction gustatory receptor (GR) genes. widespread transcriptional variation among populations, varied eggplant. characterized selection detoxification-related through ω values negative correlation expression levels values. Based results, as well genetic differences identified potentially involved adaptation truncatus. Our work provides resource for this new insights into mechanisms herbivorous mites plants.

The bitter taste, triggered via gustatory receptors, serves as an important natural defense against the ingestion of poisonous foods in animals, and increased host breadth is usually linked to increase number receptor genes. This has been especially observed polyphagous insect species, such noctuid species from Spodoptera genus. However, dynamic physical mechanisms leading these gene expansions evolutionary pressures behind them remain elusive. Among major drivers genome dynamics are transposable elements but, surprisingly, their potential role expansion not considered yet. In this work, we hypothesized that possibly positive selection would be involved highly evolution spp. We first sequenced de novo full 465 Mb S. littoralis, manually annotated main chemosensory genes, including a large repertoire 373 genes (including 19 pseudogenes). also improved completeness frugiperda litura repertoires. Then, revealed particular category class I retrotransposons, SINE transposons, was significantly enriched vicinity clusters, suggesting transposon-mediated mechanism for formation clusters. Selection pressure analyses indicated within family cryptic, only 7 receptors being identified positively selected. Altogether, our data provide new good quality genome, pinpoint interesting candidates further functional studies bring valuable genomic information on species.

The high adaptability of insects to food sources has contributed their ranking among the most abundant and diverse species on Earth. However, molecular mechanisms underlying rapid adaptation different foods remain unclear. We explored changes in gene expression metabolic composition Malpighian tubules as an important excretion detoxification organ silkworms (Bombyx mori) fed mulberry leaf artificial diets. A total 2436 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) 245 differential metabolites were identified between groups, with majority DEGs associated detoxification, transmembrane transport, mitochondrial function. Detoxification enzymes, such cytochrome P450 (CYP), glutathione-S-transferase (GST), UDP-glycosyltransferase, ABC SLC transporters endogenous exogenous solutes more diet group. Enzyme activity assays confirmed increased CYP GST diet-fed Metabolome analysis showed contents secondary metabolites, terpenoids, flavonoids, alkaloids, organic acids, lipids, additives Our findings highlight role provide guidance for further optimization diets improve silkworm breeding.

Apolygus lucorum (Hemiptera: Miridae), one of the main insect pests, causes severe damage in cotton and many other economic crops. As is well-known, legs play important roles chemoreception insects. In this study, putative chemosensory proteins A. involved close or contact chemical communication adult bugs were investigated using RNA transcriptome sequencing qPCR methods. Transcriptome data forelegs, middle hind demonstrated that 20 odorant binding protein (OBP) genes, eight (CSP) receptor (OR) gene, ionotropic (IR) gene sensory neuron membrane (SNMP) identified lucorum. Compared to previous antennae data, five CSPs, IR21a SNMP2a newly legs. Results analysis indicated all these genes ubiquitously expressed bugs. Furthermore, four types sensilla on including trichodea (subtypes: long straight trichodea, Str1; curved Str2), chaetica 1, Sch1; 2, Sch2; 3, Sch3), basiconca medium-long basiconca, Sba1; short Sba2) Böhm bristles (BB) found scanning electron microscopy. Additionally, largest number was observed legs, while forelegs had smallest sensilla. Our provide valuable insights into understanding
