Microplastics are discharged into the environment through human activities and persistent in environment. With prevalent use of plastic-based personal protective equipment prevention spread COVID-19 virus, concentration microplastics is envisaged to increase. Potential ecological health risks emanate from their potential adsorb transport toxic chemicals, ease absorption cells living organisms interfering with physiological processes. This review (1) discusses sources pathways which enter environment, (2) evaluates fate behavior microplastics, (3) African aquatic systems, (4) identifies research gaps recommends remediation strategies. Importantly, while there significant pollution terrestrial systems not widely studied. Besides, a dearth information on systems. The paper that governments non-governmental organizations should fund address knowledge gaps, include: environmental conducting toxicological studies under environmentally relevant conditions, investigating toxicity mechanisms biota, developing mitigation measures safeguard health, pollutants transported by microplastics. Moreover, regulatory measures, along circular economy strategies, may help reduce microplastic pollution.

In this study, we conducted and documented workshops interviews in Norway Slovenia to identify stakeholder future generation opinions mitigation strategies for solving one of the most prominent environmental issues: plastic pollution. As part EU H2020 project GoJelly, stakeholders were brought together explore their perceptions on considering jellyfish mucus as a new resource contribute reducing pollution from entering marine environment. The study was spring 2019, context directly after European Union (EU) announced its Directive ban commonly used single-use (SUP) items. applied snowball method methodological choice relevant stakeholders. Systems thinking utilized participatory modelling approach, which allowed creation conceptual mind maps various interviews, understand consumers’ consciousness, map out ideas reduction. Plastic takes place global scale discussed individual national international solutions that could be put solve it, including opportunities around utilizing filter capture micro- nanoplastic. We found industry both case areas generally more accepting policy increased innovation moving forward, but placed weight scientific community conduct research issue propose solutions. Future (youth aged 14–18), however, emphasis consumer behavior buying patterns products fueling crisis.
