attentional
flexibility,

revealed
that
it
is
characterized
by
an
asymmetrical
cost,
being
larger
for
switching
toward
than
attention.
One
potential
explanation

asymmetry

interference.

currently
unclear
how
instantiated
brain
information
might
be
shielded
from
input
during
switches.

study,
we
instructed
participants
repeat

simultaneously

Most
everyday
tasks
require
shifting
the
focus
of
attention
between
sensory
signals
in
external
environment
and
internal
contents
working
memory.
To
date,
shifts
have
been
investigated
within
each
domain,

domain

poorly
understood.

developed
a
combined
perception
working-memory
task
to
investigate
compare
consequences

domains

orientation-reproduction
task.
Participants

sequentially
cued

or

Abstract
Predictions
of
future
events
have
a
major
impact
on
how
we
process
sensory
signals.
