ABSTRACT Social play is a highly active social interaction, characterized by rapid exchanges of various behaviors with multiple partners. Many primates use bodily expressions during play, yet the potential signaling function these remains unclear. This study investigated whether common marmosets ( Callithrix jacchus) body posture as signal to regulate play. We recorded within three captive marmoset family groups using cameras simultaneously capture fast-paced and high frequency behaviors. Three distinct signals (i.e. supine, hide, stalk) six types wrestle, chase, pounce, touch, catch, pull) were identified. used multi-state time-to-event model analyze sequences including short-and long-term transitions between different states signal, or rest/nothing). Our data-driven approach accounted for uncertainty in duration bouts, probabilistic classification rather than arbitrary bout thresholds. The resulting classifications allowed us assess comparing behavior resting state baseline. found that presence signal: (1) increases probability play; (2) extends (3) leads more diverse (4) fighting. Marmosets also show turn-taking initiating subsequential These results postures communicative initiate change dynamics, thereby establish mutual understanding joint action. two-fold contribution this concerns novel analytical methods deeper conceptual primate communication. Abstract When quantifying animal cognition, memory represents one of the most tested domains and is key to understanding cognitive evolution. Memory tests thus play an important role in comparative research, yet slight variations experimental settings can substantially change outcome, questioning whether different tap into systems or they test at all. Here, we first assessed performance 16 common marmosets ( Callithrix jacchus ) two distinct paradigms varying their format delay. First, examined marmoset a 24-hour delay (24h-DMT) which could freely explore environment with three novel objects contained food. We retention day after, procedure was iterated cumulatively previous remaining enclosure until had choose correct out 30 objects. Second, administered classical delayed response (DRT) same animals maximum seconds. In DRT, poor not better than chance after 15 seconds already. However, individuals excelled 24h-DMT, performing above level 24h even tenfold number from compared DRT. Moreover, individual performances were correlated, typical age effects on be detected both experiments. Together, these results suggest that domains, 24h-DMT examines long-term memory. The outcome DRT more difficult assign since performed only moderately 0-second condition. This puts question this task design indeed other processes.

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a severe neurodevelopmental disorder characterized primarily by social impairments and repetitive behaviors. Imbalance in excitatory-inhibitory (E/I) activity within the central nervous system may be key mechanism underlying ASD. Electroencephalography (EEG) useful tool for recording brain electrical signals, reflecting of cortical neuron populations, estimating both global regional E/I balance. Various EEG methods can estimate balance, including non-periodic exponent, corrected alpha power, sample entropy, average spatial phase synchronization (ASPS), detrended fluctuation analysis (DFA) based on indices. However, research using proxy markers to assess imbalance autism limited, there no study indicating which method most sensitive. Therefore, this employed high-density acquisition collect data from relatively large autistic typically developing (TD) children. We computed used Coefficient Variation (CV) compare sensitivity five between two groups. The results indicated that exponent power spectra neural were more advantageous. findings provide theoretical support exploration biomarkers balance theory.
