Indigenous communities in the United States (U.S.) have been disproportionately impacted by COVID-19, yet they led efforts to combat pandemic providing local solutions that minimize viral transmission and promote vaccine uptake. Understanding facilitators barriers recommended behaviors can increase adherence reduce COVID-19 transmission. We conducted a descriptive qualitative study using in-depth interviews with 19 adults residing on Tribal Lands Southwest U.S. between June December 2021. Interview questions explored obstacles motivators testing, as well behavioral recommendations vaccination. Using content analysis approach, we identified change. Barriers testing included fear of exposure at locations discomfort from nasal swabs. Facilitators were access, required protecting loved ones. vaccination discouraging stories about side effects uncertainty ingredients effectiveness vaccines. Another barrier was confusion fairness related eligibility, which discouraged some people becoming vaccinated, despite intentions do so.
