The honeybee ( Apis mellifera L.) is an important pollinator and a model for pesticide effects on insect pollinators. of agricultural pesticides health have therefore raised concern. Bees can be exposed to multiple that may interact synergistically, amplifying their side effects. Attention has focused neonicotinoid pesticides, but flupyradifurone (FPF) novel butenolide insecticide also systemic nicotinic acetylcholine receptor (nAChR) agonist. We tested the lethal sublethal toxic FPF over different seasons worker types, interaction with common SBI fungicide, propiconazole. provide first demonstration adverse synergistic bee survival behaviour (poor coordination, hyperactivity, apathy) even at field-realistic doses (worst-case scenarios). Pesticide were significantly influenced by type season. Foragers consistently more susceptible (4-fold greater effect) than in-hive bees, both types strongly affected in summer as compared spring. Because risk assessment (RA) requires relatively limited tests only marginally address do not consider influence age season, our results raise concerns about safety approved including FPF. suggest RA test chemical mixture synergies survival.
