Abstract Aims There are currently neither onsite services nor any known studies that addresses oral health of persons with special care needs (PSCN) within disability activity centers in Singapore. This study aims to report on the status, disability‐related barriers, and assess how these barriers limit pathways. Methods Results 29 PSCN from a multiethnic mixed day center were screened over two days. Their ages ranged 18‐59 years old (mean: 31.3). Proportion Chinese, Malay Indian ethnicity was 69.6%, 26.7% 10.3% respectively. 11 female. Only three dentally fit, average required almost four treatments each. 65.5% had “poor” “very poor” hygiene. The mean number decayed, missing filled teeth 2.8 (95% CI: 1.3‐4.1), 1.9 1.2‐3.1), DMFT moderate positive (Pearson's) correlation age ( r p = 0.4549, P < .05). British Dental Association (BDA) total banded score 16.97, categorized as “moderate complexity.” 51.7% wheelchair users, while 41.3% needed support. Pharmacological behavioral management be considered for 17.2%. odds ratio 10 relative risk 5.26 requiring additional modifications more than treatment. Conclusion cohort disabilities displayed considerable unmet dental conflux care. Pathways limitations discussed.

Abstract Objectives People with severe intellectual or multiple disabilities (PIMD) have been receiving dental care in a specialized unit offering special dentistry. For most of these adult patients, the initial consultation is complaint driven. In addition, limited ability to cooperate due their often means that treatment for patients usually carried out under general anesthesia (GA). Chairside attempts are exception rather than rule. This retrospective study evaluated whether consistent practice behavioral management principles and techniques embedded specific environment enables successful PIMD. Materials methods The feasibility chairside prophylaxis PIMD ( n =36) was analyzed: were applied, professional tooth cleaning (PTC) performed chair. Clinical data obtained from medical records questionnaire analyzed. Results All had previously undergone at least one GA. Of 55.6% never teeth professionally cleaned before. Applying different techniques, all compliant PTC Conclusions An individualized disability-specific strategy using various noninvasive nonpharmacological guidance resulted higher compliance rate PIMD, which allowed reduced need relevance Consistent implementation communication strategies supportive enabled receive be involved lifelong recall program.

Abstract Background The study on oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) disabled patients is rare but critical for welfare patients. aim this was to examine the effect fixed implants in edentulous areas OHRQoL Korean Methods 63 individuals evaluated using Oral Health Impact Profile (OHIP)-14 questionnaires and studied by potential affecting variables such as age, sex, disability severity, time acquisition. Wilcoxon-signed rank tests were used OHIP-14 scores those who had pre/post-fixed implants. Multiple linear regression analysis relationships between factors before after A partial correlation also performed determine which influenced treatment. Mann-Whitney test employed sex acquisition (α = 0.05). Results Significant improvement found post-implant treatment (P < .001). After implant treatment, severity produced significantly different results ( P .009). Pearson’s coefficient pre/post-implant 0.265 .030). controlling disability, showed older lower .032). No differences or (congenital vs. acquired). Conclusions Fixed improved patients, positively correlated with OHRQoL. For a similar level decreased age.

Abstract Objective To describe the prevalence and factors associated with use of oral health services in people without disabilities Brazil. Methods A cross‐sectional study was used secondary data 60,202 individuals from Brazilian National Health Survey 2013. The main exposure variable ‘Disability’, outcome ‘Dental service use’. Independent variables were selected using modified Andersen Davidson model, according to four groups: exogenous variables, primary determinants health, behaviours conditions. analysis based on a hierarchical approach stratified by ‘disability (yes/no)’, multiple logistic regression incorporating sampling design. Interaction terms between disability covariates tested models. Results total 45.5% 34.1% those visited dentist last year. In crude nondisabled group dental more (OR = 1.61, 95%CI 1.45‐1.79), but difference no longer significant 1.18, 0.93‐1.51) when adjusted behaviour condition blocks. Determinants similar among disability. Conclusions No status found after adjusting for Although edentulism is prevalent disabled people, they do not go as regularly people. should actively schedule maintenance visits ensure that needs are fully addressed.

To assess the impact of dental caries on OHRQoL in Para athletes and to evaluate whether interleukin 1 alpha (IL1A) (rs17561, rs1304037), 10 (IL10) (rs1800871), receptor antagonist (IL1RN) (rs9005) genes are potential biomarkers for athletes.A cross-sectional study consisting 264 (athletics, 143; powerlifting, 61; swimming, 60) aged between 14 79 years was conducted. The decayed-missing-filled teeth index used clinical evaluation. Brazilian version Oral Health Impact Profile (OHIP-14) measure OHRQoL. Genomic DNA extracted from saliva. Genetic polymorphisms were analyzed by real-time polymerase chain reaction. Descriptive bivariate analyses performed. The overall mean OHIP-14 score observed 6.24 (standard deviation, 7.05) 10.03 8.11) with no experience experience, respectively (p = .002). A allele IL1A gene (rs17561), a dominant model, had significantly higher risk poor psychological discomfort than those other .03).Dental affected athletes. genetic
