Pollen is becoming an increasingly important subject for molecular researchers in genetic engineering, plant breeding, and environmental monitoring. To broaden the scope of these studies, it essential to develop accessible methods scientists who are not specialized palynology. The article presents a simplified technical procedure preparing pollen grains scanning electron microscopy (SEM). protocol convenient any laboratory due its small set reagents, ease execution, low cost, does require special equipment, takes only one hour complete. high penetrating ability formaldehyde final delicate dehydration using hexamethyldisilazane (HMDS) instead critical point drying allow sufficient preservation architecture aperture, which considered gateway passage biomolecules. method was successfully applied representatives dicotyledons (beetroot, petunia, radish, tomato tobacco) monocotyledons (lily, onion, corn, rye wheat). Species studied included insect-pollinated (entomophilous) wind-pollinated (anemophilous) species. A comparative analysis sizes fresh living under light microscope those prepared SEM showed some shrinkage. Primary Biological Aerosol Particles (PBAPs) range in size from a few nanometres to hundreds of micrometres and include particles such as pollen fungal spores, which are significant due their prevalence potential induce allergic reactions other health-related issues. This study employs real-time fluorescence spectroscopy devices, the Wideband Integrated Bioaerosol Sensor (WIBS-NEO) IBAC-2, monitor PBAPs urban environment Dublin, Ireland, during six-week campaign summer 2019. The WIBS-NEO demonstrated moderate correlations (R2 = 0.5–0.7) comparison with Hirst volumetric air sampler data for spore concentrations following appropriate filtering. In contrast, IBAC-2 showed poor correlation ambient lacked necessary particle ranges reliable measurement. Comparative analysis between revealed ≈ 0.6) small fluorescent (fluorescent 0.7 1.5 μm optical diameter) but lower larger specific bioaerosol types. findings suggest that while is effective monitoring, further refinement needed IBAC-2. underscores using advanced monitoring tools environments highlights need continued development address current limitations.

Pollen is a cornerstone of life for plants. Its durability, adaptability, and complex design are the key factors to successful plant reproduction, genetic diversity, maintenance ecosystems. A detailed study its chemical composition important understand mechanism pollen-pollinator interactions, pollination processes, allergic reactions. In this study, multimodal approach involving Fourier transform infrared spectrometry (FTIR), direct mass with an atmospheric solids analysis probe (ASAP), matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization (MALDI) ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography-mass (UHPLC-MS) was applied metabolite profiling. ATR-FTIR provided initial overview present classes. Phenylpropanoid, lipidic, carbohydrate structures were revealed. The hydrophobic outer layer pollen characterized in detail by ASAP-MS profiling, esters, phytosterols, terpenoids observed. Diacyl- triacylglycerols identified MALDI-MS spectra. imaging lipids proved be helpful during microscopic characterization species their mixture. Polyphenol profiling quantification secondary metabolites performed UHPLC-MS context coloration antioxidant antimicrobial properties. obtained results revealed significant differences among Magnoliophyta Pinophyta pollen. Additionally, some variations within metabolomics data utilized differentiation at taxonomic scale valuable information relation interactions reproduction related applications.

Traditional herbal medicine, ethnopharmacology, and evidence-based phytotherapy inspire the development of botanical active ingredients for cosmetics. Ensuring their authenticity quality is essential in guaranteeing safety efficacy cosmetic formulations. However, industry faces challenges related to adulteration inconsistent verification practices. Adulteration can occur at both crude raw material stage during processing, involving misidentification, contamination, or addition unauthorized substances. This review emphasizes need robust authentication methods, including identification, genetic testing, phytochemical/metabolomic profiling. Analytical tools such as UV/VIS spectroscopy, HPTLC, GC-MS, HPLC/UHPLC, isotope analysis provide complementary data detecting addressing adulteration. jeopardizes product safety, efficacy, regulatory compliance, consumer trust, while dilutions substitutions erode intended health benefits. A standardized, comprehensive approach across supply chain—from sourcing extract manufacturing—is critical maintaining integrity ingredients. Cosmetovigilance nutrivigilance are crucial aspects ensuring compliance. presents a novel perspective by highlighting that, pharmaceutical nutraceutical industries have long recognized risks adulteration, awareness cosmetics remains limited. It further integrates recent advancements metabolomic profiling, global challenges, economic implications Future developments AI-driven technologies may represent promising solution evolving traceability.

Identifying the main species of plants from where Ecuadorian stingless bees collect pollen is one key objectives management and conservation improvement for these insects. This study aims to determine botanical origin pot-pollen using two barcodes, comparing methodologies (DNA barcoding versus electron microscopy morphometric tools) genus source honey-producing in Ecuador. As results, Prockia crucis , Coffea canephora Miconia nervosa notabilis, Laurus nobilis Cecropia ficifolia Theobroma sp., Artocarpus Croton Euphorbia Mikania Ophryosporus were genera with highest presence nests (n = 35) three provinces located different climatic regions inside continental Plant richness both areas was statistically similar (p-value 0.21). We concluded that floral sources’ molecular identification ITS2 region had a higher number detected, than rbcL gene tools, landscapes. confirmed foraging behavior Melipona Scaptotrigona Tetragonisca could include non-native flora (27%, 12/44 identifications) provide rich pollen. Stingless beekeepers use this information create flower calendars establish schedule better secondary modified environments.
