Cohort profile of a prospective cohort study among middle-aged community-dwellers in rural Vietnam: The Khánh Hòa cardiovascular study

Disease
burden
associated
with
cardiovascular
diseases
(CVDs)
in
low-
and
middle-income
countries
has
been
on
an
increasing
trend
the
past
decades.
Despite
worldwide
genetic,
cultural,
environmental
variations
determinants
of
CVDs,
few
studies
have
attempted
identification
risk
factors
CVDs
countries.
This
article
aims
to
introduce
Khánh
Hòa
Cardiovascular
Study,
a
prospective
cohort
study
among
middle-aged
community
dwellers
rural
Hòa,
Vietnam.
A
total
3000
individuals,
aged
40–60
years
at
baseline,
participated
baseline
survey
conducted
from
June
2019
2020
will
be
followed
up
for
subsequent
10
years.
The
collected
information
sociodemographic
variables,
disease
history,
lifestyle,
social
environment,
mental
health
via
questionnaires,
physical
examinations,
biochemical
measurements.
Information
incidence
severe
outcomes
(i.e.,
mortality,
cancer)
using
study-specific
registry.
Results
showed
that
prevalences
excess
body
weight
(body
mass
index
≥25
kg/m
2
),
hypertension,
diabetes
mellitus,
dyslipidemia
were
25.9%,
39.6%,
10.2%,
45.1%,
respectively.
Furthermore,
by
March
2023,
21
participants
had
died,
including
5
CVD
deaths
12
cancer
deaths.
Moreover,
we
recorded
22
31
cases
nonfatal
cancer,
These
results
suggest
many
residents
Vietnam
high
cardiometabolic
risk,
underscore
importance
advancing
research
identify
prevent
onset
serious
events.

Objective
To
investigate
the
effects
of
multiple
stress
events
in
different
stages
life
on
incidence
metabolic
syndrome
(MetS).
Methods
Miners
from
Tangshan,
China,
were
recruited
for
this
study.
Workers
Kailuan
Mining
Group
evaluated
to
whether
exposure
Tangshan
earthquakes
during
fetal
period
1976.
Adult
and
childhood
trauma
assessed
separately
via
Life
Event
Scale
Childhood
Trauma
Questionnaire.
The
subjects
physically
examined
general
demographic
data
such
as
waist
circumference
collected.
Blood
samples
collected
measurement
parameters.
Corticotropin
releasing
hormone(CRH)
levels
was
measured
by
enzyme-linked
immunosorbent
assay
(ELISA).
divided
into
four
groups
according
their
traumatic
life:
no
group,
1-exposure
2-exposures
3-exposures
group.
MetS,
parameters
CRH
each
compared.
Results
In
all,
626
people
enrolled;
these,
183,
262,
150,
31
exposure,
1-exposure,
2-exposures,
3-exposure
groups,
respectively.
A
remarkable
variation
MetS
observed
among
(
x

16.462,

<0.001).

with
increasing
number
events,
except
group
(17.9%

Multivariate
logistic

analysis
