Plastic pollution has become a growing concern for environmental and human health in recent years. Currently, research suggests that soil compartments might be highly contaminated, with compost being one of the major sources plastic contamination, especially at reduced sizes. In Geneva, microplastic contamination already been evaluated industrial but not yet field-side compost. Microplastics are tangible particles of less than 0.2 inches in diameter that ubiquitously distributed the biosphere and accumulate water bodies. During east-coast hot summers (23–29 °C) 2021 2022, June through September, we captured copious amounts jellyfish Chrysaora chesapeakei, a predominant species found Patuxent River Chesapeake Bay Maryland on United States East Coast. We determined their gelatinous bodies trapped many microplastics fluorescent microscopy studies using Rhodamine B staining Raman Spectroscopy. The chemical nature was detected gas chromatography–mass spectroscopy headspace (SPME-GC-MS) solvent extraction (GC-MS) methods professional commercial materials evaluation laboratory. Numerous plastic-affiliated volatile organic compounds (VOCs) from diverse origins functional groups (alkanes, alkenes, acids, aldehydes, ketones, ethers, esters, alcohols) along with other non-microplastic were observed. Our findings corroborate data available scientific literature, distinguishing our finding’s suitability.

We quantified egested microplastics for three shorebird species (Western Sandpiper Calidris mauri, Dunlin alpina, and Semipalmated pusilla) by collecting fecal samples at major stopover sites on the Pacific Atlantic coasts of Canada in 2022. The sampling effort resulted a total 133 individual samples, 93 from 40 sites. Frequency occurrence was generally low ranged species: Western (FO=13%, n = 11/87), (FO=17%, 1/6), (FO=3%, 1/40). Polyester most common polymer (n=6), followed polypropylene (n=4), polyamide (n=4). colors were white (n=9, 64%) black (n 5, 36%). This study adds to list shorebirds that are known ingest microplastic pollution underscores need understand consequences such ingestion.
