Toxoplasmosis is a globally significant zoonotic disease with the potential to severely impact wild animal populations. Neotropical non-human primates (NHPs), particularly callitrichids, are highly susceptible, often experiencing fatal outcomes. This study examines toxoplasmosis in free-ranging black-tufted marmosets (Callithrix penicillata) anthropogenic environments of Central Brazil, analyzing epidemiological and pathological data from 2017 2022. A retrospective review 1095 NHP deaths identified 9.2% prevalence (101/1,095) acute (AFT) across Brazil 10.3% (53/515) within federal district (FD). Necropsied FD showed an estimated AFT 50.7% lethality rate 20.3%. cases were linked outbreaks isolated incidents, likely seasonal peak during dry season. Pathological findings included severe hepatic damage, splenitis, interstitial pneumonia, myocarditis. Immunohistochemistry qPCR confirmed Toxoplasma gondii infection, highest parasite loads spleen liver. Given pressures habitat fragmentation, urbanization, T. exposure, this advances understanding as emerging marmosets. Findings establish critical foundation for conservation strategies insights into dynamics NHPs living our neighborhood.

The increasing spread of wild pigs across Canada is concerning due to their potential role as reservoirs for zoonotic diseases, including trichinosis and toxoplasmosis. Trichinosis caused by the parasitic nematode Trichinella spp. can manifest clinically in humans. Likewise, intracellular protozoan parasite Toxoplasma gondii a significant global foodborne waterborne responsible Despite being recognized globally T. spp., status Alberta remains undetermined. Wild pig diaphragms were collected part provincial control efforts between 2018–2024 from four counties. Meat juice was analyzed antibodies against using commercial ELISA kits. We found that 27/252 positive 11/293 corresponding with respective true prevalence 15.3% (95% CrI: 9.6–22.7%) 3.8% 1.8–6.5%) based on Bayesian analysis reported test sensitivity specificity. difference counties, significantly higher solitary pigs, suggesting social context individual an important determinant infection risk. These findings suggest function reservoirs, underscoring need One Health approach managing Alberta’s invasive pigs.
