The spatial arrangement of settlements constitutes a long-lasting legacy and shapes the prospects for transformations toward sustainability. Thus, understanding drivers changes in settlement patterns is essential. In this article, we present spatially explicit, geostatistical analysis dynamics, qualitative investigation its regulative, demographic, economic drivers, using example Vienna, Austria between 1984 2018. Combining explicit metrics urban sprawl cluster analysis, analyzed high-resolution maps buildings, population, jobs to identify distinct trajectories. Societal more or less sprawled dynamics are with desk research expert interviews. We distinguish five types dynamics: persistently dense areas increasing use intensity, re-densification areas, redensification isolated buildings. Urban renewal schemes have fostered response population growth restructuring. combination green space policies has successfully limited expansion. Challenges arise from demand single-family housing corresponding zoning regulations. These factors solidify existing settlements, posing obstacles efficient such crucial sustainable development.

Abstract Ecosystem services (ES) are essential to sustainable development at multiple spatial scales. Monitoring ES potential (ESP) the metropolitan level is imperative cities. We developed a procedure for long-term monitoring of ESP dynamics, utilizing open-source land use cover (LULC) data and expert matrix method. compared results 38 European Capital Metropolitan Areas (ECMA) regarding biodiversity integrity, drinking water provision, flood protection, air quality, purification, recreation & tourism. Our show significant declines in across ECMA due LULC alteration between 2006, 2012, 2018. found that post-socialist countries like Poland (Warszawa) have experienced high rates transformation with remarkable impact on ESP. Abstract The increasing demand for land development due to human activities has fueled urbanization. However, uncontrolled urban in some regions resulted environmental problems arising from an imbalance between supply and demand. This study aims develop integrated model evaluating prioritizing the management of hazardous sprawl Bandung metropolitan region Indonesia. novelty this lies its pioneering application long-term remote sensing data-based machine learning techniques formulate priority index. index is unique consideration impacts stemming economic activity, degradation, multi-disaster levels as integral components. analysis across three distinct time periods (1985–1993, 1993–2008, 2008–2018) revealed that 1993–2008 period had highest increase reaching 172,776 ha. 1985–1993 experienced level degradation area. Meanwhile, showed concentration multi-hazard locations. combined sprawl, incorporating parameters, indicated intervention was on outskirts areas, specifically West Regency, Cimahi, East Regency. Regions with high-priority indices require greater attention government mitigate negative sprawl. model, driven by index, envisioned regulate movement a more sustainable manner. Through efficient monitoring environments, seeks guarantee preservation valuable natural resources while promoting practices.

Abstract Mental health disorders have become a global problem, garnering considerable attention. However, the root causes of deteriorating mental remain poorly understood, with existing literature predominantly concentrating on socioeconomic conditions and psychological factors. This study uses multi‐linear geographically weighted regressions (GWR) to examine associations between built natural environmental attributes prevalence depression in US counties. The findings reveal that job sprawl land mixed use are highly correlated lower risk depression. Additionally, presence green spaces, especially urban area, is associated improved health. Conversely, higher concentrations air pollutants, such as PM 2.5 CO, along increased precipitation, linked elevated rates. When considering spatial correlation through GWR, impact population density social capital displays substantial heterogeneity. Further analysis, focused two high clustering regions (northwestern southeastern counties), reveals nuanced determinants. In northwestern counties, rates more influenced by factors like precipitation conditions, including unemployment income segregation. demographic characteristics, particularly racial composition, prevalence, followed environment Interestingly, growth crime only emerge significant context risks underscores robust linkages variations environments health, emphasizing need for effective treatment incorporate these multifaceted
