Abstract Vision is important for various tasks, from visually tracking moving objects to maintaining balance. People obtain visual information through eye movements performed either alone or in combination with head movements. Even when isolated can accommodate the amplitude of desired gaze shift, humans still perform movements, as they provide additional sensory signals that be integrated retinal input resulting improved estimates. However, also create mechanical torques and attenuate vestibular processing could disturb We, therefore, here examined whether engagement determined by postural requirements performing a task. Young participants tracked target horizontally along different amplitudes, while were seated, standing on firm an unstable surface. Our results showed stronger than sitting, but no systematic differences found between surfaces. To further explore interplay demands, we conducted second experiment where young older similar task, now allowed move their instructed limit Both accuracy sway increased engaging head. When asked both age groups engaged minimally, more pronounced challenging postures. naturally, younger adults reduced demanding We suggest facilitate tracking, limited preserve

Abstract Ageing‐related sensory deteriorations are significantly associated with poor balance control among older individuals, resulting in a higher risk of falling dark environment. In particular, the proprioceptive system plays critical role maintaining balance. This study aimed to determine how ageing‐related contributed during standing under various conflicts. Twenty healthy, active adults (10 young and 10 older) participated this study. Balance was quantified through two organization test conditions (SOT‐1: unblindfolded standing; SOT‐2: blindfolded standing). Mastoid vibration (MV) applied unilaterally (Uni) or bilaterally (Bi) mastoid processes, for perturbing vestibular inputs. A total six trials were assigned each participant random order. Dependent variables included traveling route (TR), performance index (PI) sample entropy (SaEn) anterior–posterior (AP) medial–lateral (ML) directions. Our results showed that (1) compared without MV, applying MV increased TR_AP (Uni: P = 0.003; Bi: < 0.001) TR_ML 0.009; 0.011) all participants (2) application Uni Bi PI_AP, PI_ML, SaEn_AP SaEn_ML when SOT‐1 SOT‐2 ( 0.05); (3) demonstrated PI_ML than standing. indicated potential imbalance attributed even healthy adults. Furthermore, unilateral had stronger effect on disturbing ML bilateral MV.

BACKGROUND Degenerative loss of muscular strength, especially in the knee extensors and flexors, is a hallmark aging that severely compromises functional independence elevates fall risk among older adults. Precise quantification strength therefore essential for effective diagnosis intervention geriatric rehabilitation. Although isokinetic dynamometry remains reference standard objective measurement, its cost, bulk, operational complexity hinder applicability real-world clinical community settings. Portable isometric testing devices offer practical alternative, but rigorous validation studies are needed. OBJECTIVE This study aimed to establish test-retest reliability concurrent validity Leg Strength Analyzer (IB-LS), compact device developed by InBody Inc., against gold-standard dynamometer (CSMI Humac Norm) sample community-dwelling METHODS Twenty-one adults (mean age: 65.10 ± 4.56 years; 11 men, 10 women) were recruited from senior centers. Participants underwent standardized bilateral extension flexion using both IB-LS CSMI systems. The protocol involved three maximal voluntary contractions per movement limb, performed on same day assessment. A follow-up session was conducted 24 hours later 17 participants, during which at 60°/s performed. Intraclass correlation coefficients (ICCs) calculated evaluate intra-device inter-device validity. Bland-Altman plots used assess agreement bias across devices. RESULTS demonstrated excellent reliability, with ICCs ranging 0.856 0.987 all conditions. Concurrent analyses revealed strong correlations between CSMI-derived measurements: ranged 0.826 0.946 comparisons 0.775 0.881 comparisons. indicated acceptable limits agreement, no evidence systematic measurement bias. mean difference torque 13.2 93.5 Nm data 31.0 56.0 CONCLUSIONS findings substantiate as reliable valid instrument assessing Its high user-friendly design position it feasible solution assessment community-based care.
