Abstract
Concern
about
the
apparent
increase
in
mental
health
problems
among
adolescents
and
young
people
has
intensified
considerably
recent
years,
with
it
being
common
nowadays
to
refer
a
"mental
crisis"

epidemiological
studies
confirm
an
internalized
behaviors
within

This
article
proposes
that
sociocultural
process
of
"social
psychiatrization"
contemporary
society
is
indispensable

factor
for
analyzing

Introduction
The
COVID-19
pandemic
has
faced
students
with
many
challenges,
contributing
to
their
mental
distress.

explores
the
role
of
demographic
characteristics,
psychological
status,

study,

social
support

university
students’

Methods

February
March
2021,
data
were
collected
on
5,234
full-time
postsecondary

enrolled
public
concessionary
independent
higher
education
institutions.

questionnaire,

Health
Questionnaire
(PHQ-9),

Anxiety
Disorder
questionnaire
(GAD-7),
Oslo
Social
Support
Scale
(OSSS-3),
items
measuring
behavior
demographics.

analyzed

multiple
linear
regression
hypothesis
testing
for
differences.
Results
Factors,
such
as
gender,
age,
status
support,
contributed
experiencing
anxiety
depression
among
pandemic,
