Dopamine and serotonin are hypothesized to guide social behaviours. In humans, however, we have not yet been able study neuromodulator dynamics as interaction unfolds. Here, obtained subsecond estimates of dopamine from human substantia nigra pars reticulata during the ultimatum game. Participants, who were patients with Parkinson's disease undergoing awake brain surgery, had accept or reject monetary offers varying fairness computer players. They rejected more in than condition, an effect context associated higher overall levels but serotonin. Regardless context, relative changes tracked trial-by-trial offer value-akin reward prediction errors-whereas current value. These results show that fluctuations one basal ganglia's main output structures reflect distinct value signals.

Aesthetic chills are an embodied peak emotional experience induced by stimuli such as music, films, and speeches characterized dopaminergic release. The consequences of in terms valence arousal still debated the existing empirical data is conflicting. In this study, we tested effects ChillsDB, open-source repository chills-inducing stimuli, on ratings 600+ participants. We found that participants experiencing reported significantly more positive greater during experience, compared to who did not chills. This suggests may influence one’s perception affective evaluation context, favor theoretical models emphasizing role interoceptive signals process decision-making. also interesting pattern participants, which tended harmonize toward a similar mean after experiment, though initially disparately distributed. discuss significance these results for diagnosis treatment disorders Parkinson’s, schizophrenia, depression.

Previous neuroimaging studies have identified functional and structural changes in the gray matter of rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (RRD) patients, yet genetic mechanisms behind these alterations remain unclear. We employed multimodal imaging to investigate RRD patients. A transcriptome-neuroimaging spatial correlation analysis, integrating gene expression data from Allen Human Brain Atlas, genes linked stability changes. followed this with enrichment, protein–protein interaction (PPI) network mapping, profiling. patients showed distinct, sustained dynamic balance within default mode functionally, a significant reduction volume visual region structurally, compared healthy controls. Transcriptome-neuroimaging analysis revealed link between profiles 165 involved membrane organization, neurodegeneration, phagocytosis, calcium signaling. These form highly interconnected PPI network, centered around key hub genes. Tissue- cell-specific highlighted distinct pattern, especially D1 receptor–positive cells caudate-putamen. Our findings indicate function structure particularly regions cognitive processing. Transcriptomic reveals that are multiple genes, shedding light on potential underlying RRD-associated modifications offering new insights for treatment prognosis.

According to theories of embodied cognition, facial mimicry - the spontaneous, low-intensity imitation a perceived emotional expression is first an automatic motor response, whose accompanying proprioceptive feedback contributes emotion recognition. Alternative theoretical accounts, however, view as response rewarding stimulus, and/or affiliative signal, and thus reject copy.To contribute this debate further investigate neural basis mimicry, well its relation reward processing, we measured reactions dynamic happy angry faces after pharmacologically manipulating opioid dopamine systems respectively, thought subserve 'liking' 'wanting' rewards. In placebo-controlled, double-blind experiment, 130 volunteers received in between-subjects design 50 mg opioidergic antagonist naltrexone, 400 dopaminergic amisulpride, or placebo.Clear occurrence 4 h drug intake with electromyography (EMG) zygomaticus major corrugator supercilii muscles, was found. However, not affected by either compound, shown both frequentist statistics, Bayesian asymptotic regression model. This null finding does support hypothesis that (of happiness) reflects leaving open possibility being copy. The results are relevant discussion about psychological nature although they should be considered preliminary, given challenges interpreting findings when targeting novel effect unknown size.

Abstract Children with high Callous-Unemotional (CU) traits show deficits in recognizing and processing facial expressions. Alterations emotion recognition have been linked to a higher synaptic concentration of monoaminergic neurotransmitters. The current study investigated the relationship between MAOA -Low-activity alleles ability recognize process expressions 97 male children (8–12 years old) diagnosed disruptive behavior disorder. Participants completed computerized emotion-recognition task while an eye-tracking system recorded number (Fixation Count, FC) length Duration, FD) fixations eye region emotional stimuli. CU exhibited lower scores sadness anger, FC FD for fear than low traits. carrying displayed sadness, those -High-activity alleles. These genetic effects appeared even stronger Moderation analysis revealed that were associated fear, probably due Our findings, although be replicated, suggest as potential biomarkers identify need training focused on processing.

Difficulties in reasoning about others' mental states (i.e., mentalising/Theory of Mind) are highly prevalent among disorders featuring dopamine dysfunctions (e.g., Parkinson's disease) and significantly affect individuals' quality life. However, due to multiple confounding factors inherent existing patient studies, currently little is known whether these sociocognitive symptoms originate from aberrant signalling or psychosocial changes unrelated dopamine. The present study, therefore, investigated the role modulating mentalising a sample healthy volunteers. We used double-blind, placebo-controlled procedure test effect D2/D3 antagonist haloperidol on state attribution, using an adaptation Heider Simmel (1944) animations task. On 2 separate days, once after receiving 2.5 mg placebo, 33 adult participants viewed labelled short videos triangles depicting (involving mentalistic interaction wherein 1 triangle intends cause act upon particular other, e.g., surprising) non-mental reciprocal without intention cause/act other triangle's state, following) interactions. Using Bayesian mixed effects models, we observed that decreased accuracy labelling both animations. Our secondary analyses suggest modulates inference via independent mechanisms, pointing towards putative pathways underlying dopaminergic modulation attribution: action representation shared mechanism supporting emotion recognition. conclude impact Theory Mind, at least indirectly. results have implications for neurochemical basis difficulties patients with generate new hypotheses specific dopamine-mediated mechanisms social cognition.

A body of research implicates dopamine in the average speed simple movements. However, naturalistic movements span a range different shaped trajectories and rarely proceed at single constant speed. Instead, is reduced when drawing "corners" compared to "straights" (i.e., modulation), extent this slowing down dependent upon global shape movement trajectory meta-modulation) - for example whether an ellipse or rounded square. At present, it not known how (or whether) dopaminergic function controls continuous changes during execution. The current paper reports effects on these kinematic features following two forms manipulation: Study One highlights differences individuals with PD both ON OFF their medication (N = 32); Two from general population haloperidol (a receptor blocker, "antagonist") placebo 43). Evidence presented implicating speed, modulation meta-modulation, whereby low conditions are associated reductions variables. These findings move beyond vigour models towards conceptualisation that involves as contextual information.
