This article provides a comprehensive study of ecosystem rehabilitation methods widely used in the 21st century, focusing on Europe. The review covers evolution and trends scientific publication, identification European countries demonstrating high publication outputs, collaboration patterns, leading journals, thematic areas. Additionally, it examines primary stressors aquatic ecosystems, different treatments commonly employed for remediation purposes. analysis selected articles revealed significant increase studies over time, driven by public awareness financial incentives from national, global organizations. Italy, Portugal Spain were degraded studies, mainly remediating contaminated areas where metals identified as stressor (chemical pollution). Chemical method emerged most used, closely followed biological method, which have gained prominence recent years due to their ecological, economic, social combined benefits. Furthermore, demonstrate growing trend towards use more than one treatment/method rehabilitate particularly with treatments. approach has potential synergistic effects achieving effective sustainability long term, thus, focus future research. Two initiatives been recently launched - UN Decade Ecosystem Restoration (2021-2030) new proposal restoration EU. These aim address decline ecosystems/habitats, whether presence contaminants (e.g., metals) or anthropogenic factors. work contributes understanding remediate these exhibiting degradation. Such efforts play pivotal role enhancing environmental conditions addressing associated issues. will serve reference analysing impact legislation research recovery.
