Maize (Zea mays L.) is the major produced crop in South Africa, but numerous abiotic/biotic stressors threaten its production. Herbicides are mainly agricultural sector to minimise yield losses caused by weed competition. However, with most weeds becoming resistant glyphosate, African farmers have used higher herbicide concentrations than typically recommended. This study was conducted determine effect of two biostimulants (brassinosteroids and KELPAK) glyphosate on morphophysiological parameters maize seedlings. Experiments were carried out glasshouses Department Soil, Crop, Climate Sciences at University Free State Bloemfontein for eight weeks over seasons, 2017/2018 2018/2019. The treatments did not significantly affect all morphological except plant dry mass. Compared control, mass (p < 0.05) increased 15.72 g when applied combination brassinosteroids during 2019 growing season. application brassinosteroids, KELPAK differed between across physiological seasons: an irrefutable significant increase recorded rates transpiration weeks. Although differences chlorophyll fluorescence, chlorophyll, carotenoid content, these similar especially last week data collection. During early developmental stage maize, can administer biostimulants—brassinosteroid (5 ai ha−1) (5% ha−1)—alone glyphosate-resistant cultivars treated aid

Recent advancements in genome editing have captured the attention of scientists and policymakers, who contend that technology has a large role to play advancing food climate security on African continent. However, modest results earlier generations biotechnology—such as genetically modified (GM) crops—raise questions about sustainability new technological interventions. This special feature examines lessons learned from previous GM crops other agricultural technologies, using them analyze portfolio gene edited being developed for farmers today. In this article, we introduce 6 papers make up by way examining future-oriented discourses around advancement editing. Drawing Science Technology Studies, political ecology, critical development studies, introduction highlights crucial factors shape development, practice, politics knowing emphasizes need look toward multiple, diverse futures.
