Abstract Background Variability in the vocabulary outcomes of children with cochlear implants (CIs) is partially explained by child‐directed speech (CDS) characteristics. Yet, relatively little known about whether and how mothers adapt their lexical prosodic characteristics to child's hearing status (before after implantation, compared groups normal (NH)) important they are affecting development first 12 months experience. . The narrative skills of children with Cochlear Implants (CIs) are fragile, but the factors at play and whether these difficulties could be similar to those detected in language impairment not clear. present study aims assess, microstructural level, skills, comparing CIs Developmental Language Disorder (DLD) or Typical Development (TD). Furthermore, relationship between verbal (lexical morphosyntactic) comprehension across groups is investigated. narratives 19 (Mage = 62.42 months, SD 6.83), 13 DLD 65.38 4.27), 18 preschool TD 63.67 4.31) were assessed a standardized task. Articles, prepositions, pronouns, gender number agreement, accuracy use verbs, arguments each sentence analysed. Lexical morphosyntactic also assessed. Performance was compared using ANOVAs Kruskal-Wallis tests. role lexical predicting morphological syntactic element task examined linear regressions. Data analysis showed that both had fragilities narration, components. Although some differences emerged descriptive analyses, statistically significant. Regressions predicted pronouns produced only group. scarce CI absence an effect on pronoun production may due their low elements and/or difficulty managing expressive regardless ability comprehend them. Potential implications results discussed.
