Purpose This study explores the role of digital visualization technology, specifically virtual reality (VR), in assessing daylight visual comfort, a critical aspect indoor environmental quality (IEQ) built environment. Design/methodology/approach A systematic literature review was conducted following PRISMA guidelines on articles published between 2019 and 2023, sourced from Scopus, ScienceDirect, Emerald Insight Sage. total 17 were selected for final analysis. The classifies factors affecting users’ emotions behavioral responses immersive environments using stimulus-organism-response (S-O-R) framework psychology. Findings reveals that most VR studies comfort lighting focus predominantly office environments, highlighting significant research gap residential contexts where daylighting strategies differ considerably. analysis identifies four major clusters factors—window properties, light natural properties spatial properties—that influence emotional, physiological, cognitive perceptual responses, leading to outcomes such as energy consumption, productivity preferences. Practical implications experimental designs, protocols measurement tools are analyzed recommend best practices future research. offers strategic insights conducting empirical assess buildings. Originality/value extends S-O-R by proposing conceptual model linking key elements settings responses. serves foundation VR-based experiments evaluation.
