The co-evolution of policy mixes and socio-technical systems: Towards a conceptual framework of policy mix feedback in sustainability transitions

Understanding how policymaking processes can influence the rate and direction of socio-technical change towards sustainability is an important, yet underexplored research agenda in field transitions. Designing an effective climate-policy mix: accounting for instrument synergy

We assess evidence from theoretical-modelling, empirical and experimental studies on how interactions between instruments of climate policy affect overall emissions reduction. Going around in circles? Conceptual recycling, patching and policy layering in the EU circular economy package

The circular economy (CE) concept is informing the governance of resource use and waste management on a global scale, leading to widespread policy instrument innovation. However, recent appearance CE 'policy portfolios' raises questions about whether such policies are genuinely path-breaking or merely adjustments existing arrangements. Tracing emergence European Union's Circular Economy Package shows that, while some measures novel, many others 'patched' onto pre-existing instruments that overall portfolio exhibits high degree institutional 'layering'. Given evidence relative ineffectiveness past incremental environmental interventions, there mismatch between approaches pace, scope transformation implied by contemporary articulations concept. Mechanisms for policy (dis)integration: explaining food policy and climate change adaptation policy in the Netherlands
