The significance of a dialectical approach to enrich health professions education

The
Lancet
Global
Independent
Commission
has
called
for
a
systems-based
approach
to
health
professions
education.
They
emphasised
the
acquisition
of
collaborative
skills,
critical
reasoning
and
ethical
conduct
prepare
students
interprofessional
practice
(IPCP).
Interprofessional
education
(IPE)
been
put
forward
as
promising
strategy.
However,
despite
global
efforts
incorporate
IPE
in
curricula,
evidence
positive
impact
on
IPCP
is
still
inconclusive.
This
may
be
related
misalignment
between
competency-driven
programs
that
focus
end-stage
professional
competence
non-linear
development
students'
necessary
dynamical
nature
IPCP.
Therefore,
we
argue
education,
particular,
needs
these
processes
including
social
organization
sensitivity.
We
present
conceptual
framework
integrates
Cultural-Historical
Theory,
principles
dialectical
thinking
concept
metastable
attunement.
While
ability
perceive
complexity
dynamic
reality
state
constant
transition,
attunement
refers
consequent
adjustment
it.
subsequent
instructional
design
employs
teaching
learning,
based
mediating
activities
inquiry.
To
reach
full
potential
this
approach,
should
ensure
continuum
learning
across
curriculum.
In
addition,
faculty
inquiry
pedagogy
optimally
guide
students.
Further
research
into
extent
which
healthcare
professionals
think
dialectically
inform
improvements
proposed
design,
structure

requirements
development.
