Education stands as the bedrock of individual growth and a defining force in shaping nation’s identity. Serving fundamental pillar for societal advancement, it emerges paramount investment cultivating golden generation marked by prosperity, health, equitable communities. In expansive landscape global education, Indonesia boasts one largest systems, with resolute commitment from government evident high budget allocations. However, despite these endeavors, grapples challenges, reflected its low international education ranking, currently standing at 6th bottom. This study meticulously explores core challenges embedded Indonesian educational system. Using bibliometric analysis following Preferred Reporting Items Systematic Reviews Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines, authors scrutinized 367 high-quality articles Scopus database spanning August 2000 to 2023. The findings reveal 12 central issues, including curriculum dynamics, persistent inequalities, teacher shortages, infrastructure limitations, specter corruption, escalating dropout rates, more. These insights guide policymakers, educators, researchers committed navigating transforming Indonesia’s toward brighter future.
