Microbiological Profile in Periodontitis and Peri-Implantitis: A Systematic Review

AIM:
This
systematic
review
aims
to
analyze
the
microbiological
similarities
and
differences
between
diseased
periodontal
peri-implant
sulci
based
on
available
literature
evidence.
MATERIALS
AND
METHODOLOGY:
A
comprehensive
search
was
done
in
electronic
databases
such
as
PubMed,
Google
Scholar,
Cochrane
hand
made
pre-determined
eligibility
criteria.
Studies
assessing
microbial
profile
obtained
from
biofilm
samples
collected
were
selected
after
through
screening.
RESULTS:
The
8
studies
evaluated
periodontitis
peri-implantitis.
Five
found
a
statistically
significant
variation
peri-implantitis,
while
one
study
no
changes
microbiology
of
inflammatory
sites.
In
two
situ
studies,
structure
transcription
level
core
species
co-occurrence
network
different
whereas
other
that
diseases
differed
terms
16S
rRNA-based
taxonomic
profiles
but
similar
functional
genes,
virulence
factor
mRNA
profiles.
CONCLUSION:
According
existing
composition
observed.
Hence,
peri-implantitis
have
diverse
characteristics.
