Concern over microplastics (MPs) in the environment is rising. Microplastics are generally known to exist aquatic settings, but less about their occurrence soil ecosystems. When plastic waste builds up agricultural areas, it can have a negative impact on and food sources, as well an indirect effect all trophic levels of chain. This paper addresses relationship between management waste, which contributes accumulation, describes sources movement processes soils result natural events disasters. Evaluating weather coastal microplastic contamination critical, extreme become more frequent recent years. study sheds light how patterns affect dispersion terrestrial habitats, including impacts seasonality weather. According results this review, typhoons, monsoons, rainfall, floods contribute significantly surface sediment through runoff wind transport, particle redistribution caused by agitated waves, fragmentation under intense abrasion forces. Severe conditions potential disperse larger varied kinds microplastics.

Microplastic (MP) pollution, a pressing environmental issue globally, has received considerable attention in marine, freshwater and terrestrial environments. However, studies on the deposition of airborne MPs, particularly Southern African regions, have less attention. As such, current study aimed at investigating atmospheric MPs across three different environments, namely urban, rural forest Thulamela Local Municipality, Limpopo, South Africa. We hypothesised that MP will exhibit significant differences between with urban environment having highest fluxes due to dense population area high human activities. The results showed varied significantly ranging from 90.51 ± 15.19 - 355.64 47.65 particles/m2/day, an overall average 211.87 31.44 particles/m2/day. was recorded environment, while lowest observed forested environment. deposited were mainly transparent fibres polyethylene terephthalate (PET). Furthermore, found demonstrated strong positive correlation rainfall, suggesting rainfall events play role transporting MP. further shed light possible fate deposition, which implications for pristine indicating transport potential ecological impacts pollution even populated isolated

The Yangtze River Basin (YRB) is an important source of marine microplastics (MPs). However, unscientific research methods in previous studies have led to inaccurate estimates the occurrence and ecologic risk MPs. This study aimed comprehensively assess distribution ecological risks MPs YRB, through investigating full-size surface waters YRB over 3 years. Size Effect was developed based on impact size MP-carried pollutants human health, combined with multiple evaluate potential average MP abundance 8797 ± 12,281 items/m3, dominated by polypropylene fragments. small (<0.3 mm; 92.52%) were driving factor spatial heterogeneity. Interestingly, Three Gorges Dam significantly altered weakened transportation. Agricultural activities, wastewater treatment plants, atmospheric deposition main sources YRB. Multiple assessment indicated that at middle–low level. addresses <0.05 mm provides insights for assessment, serves as a reference sustainable management.

The pervasiveness of microplastics (MPs) in terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems has become a significant environmental concern recent years. Because their slow rate disposal, MPs are ubiquitous the environment. As consequence indiscriminate use, landfill deposits, inadequate recycling methods, MP production accumulation expanding at an alarming rate, resulting range economic, social, repercussions. Aquatic organisms, including fish various crustaceans, consume MPs, which ultimately consumed by humans tertiary level food chain. Blocking digestive tracts, disrupting behavior, reducing reproductive growth entire living organisms all consequences this phenomenon. In order to assess potential impacts resources required for life plastic product, importance cycle assessment (LCA) circularity is underscored.
