The Link between Gut Microbiome, Nutraceuticals, Diet, and Diabetes Mellitus: A Bibliometric and Visual Analysis of Research and Emerging Trends from 2012 to 2022

The increasing prevalence of diabetes mellitus (DM) worldwide is a cause for global concern. Recent evidence suggests that the interaction between one’s diet and gut microbiome are key modifiers diabetes, highlighting potential role microbiome-modulating nutraceuticals. This bibliometric analysis examines literature published 2012 2022 to explore trends in latest research, with additional discussion on major takeaways future directions. We selected analyzed 640 articles from an initial pool 4,099 Web Science using Microsoft Excel 2016 VOSviewer software (version 1.6.19). Our exploration covered most common journals, countries, study designs, experimental subjects, types DM, organisms nutraceuticals studied, cited articles. also evaluated publications terms organizations, along collaborative networks among authors, organizations co-occurrence author keywords selection. It evident number each year this field has attracted growing attention over last decade. Nonetheless, continued research essential sustain trend. overarching marks steady progress understanding of—and potentially discovering applications of—microbiome modulation enhance metabolic pathways health outcomes. Advancements may lead therapeutic specific diets modulate microbiota DM.
