Influence of the Age of Free-Living Amoeba Cysts on Their Vertical Distribution in a Water Column

Free-Living
Amoebae
(FLA)
are
widely
distributed
protozoa
in
both
nature
and
artificial
environments
such
as
drinking
water.
Besides
the
ability
of
all
FLA
to
transport
various
pathogenic
microorganisms,
certain
species,
Acanthamoeba
spp.
or
Balamuthia
mandrillaris,
have
intrinsic
abilities
cause
severe
cerebral
infections.
Previous
work
has
shown
an
enrichment
cysts
biofilm
developed
upper
levels
Drinking
Water
Storage
Towers
(DWST),
suggesting
that
differences
densities
may
play
a
role
their
unequal
distribution
water
column.
To
evaluate
this
hypothesis,
model
column
was
created
for
study
used
analyze
vertical
castellanii,
Vermamoeba
vermiformis
mandrillaris
from
0
23
weeks.
Interestingly,
our
data
showed
A.
castellanii
V.
were
enriched
during
aging.
However,
B.

amoeba
Acanthamoeba
castellanii
is
a
unicellular
eukaryote
distributed
in
wide
range
of
soil
or
aquatic
environments,

human-made,
