(1) Background: The involvement of redox balance alterations and innate immunity is suggested to play a key role in the pathogenesis sarcopenia. This investigation aimed define relate modifications circulating markers homeostasis immune response human (2) Methods: A total 32 subjects aged >65 years old affected by sarcopenia according second "European Working Group on older people" guidelines were compared with 40 non-sarcopenic age-matched controls. To assess systemic homeostasis, reduced (GSH) oxidized (GSSG) blood glutathione plasma malondialdehyde (MDA)- 4-hydroxy-2,3-nonenal (HNE)-protein adducts measured. Immune cells interleukins determined compare between both groups. (3) Results: Impaired sarcopenic patients, characterized high GSSG/GSH ratio MDA/HNE-protein adducts, was sustained antioxidants peripheral mononuclear cells. Furthermore, patients showed higher neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratios interleukin (IL)-4, IL-6, IL-10, tumor necrosis factor (TNF) respect patients. Linear regression analysis resulted strong association group. (4) Conclusions: These results support interplay alteration disruption

Abstract A biological age (BA) indicator is intended to capture detrimental age-related changes occurring with passing time. To date, the best-known and used BA indicators include DNA-methylation-based epigenetic ages (epigenetic clocks) telomere length. The most common sample material for epidemiological aging studies composed of different cell types, whole blood. We aimed compare differences in BAs between blood types assessed indicators’ type-specific associations donor’s calendar age. Analysis on DNA methylation-based including length, methylation level at cg16867657 (a CpG-site ELOVL2 ) Hannum, Horvath, DNAmPhenoAge DunedinPACE clocks was performed 428 samples from 12 types. values were (p<0.05) majority pairwise comparisons Most also displayed as compared (p<0.05). Some observed persisted across 20 80 years (50-years-difference naïve CD4+ T cells monocytes), while others did not (up four-fold difference monocytes B cells). All indicators, except DunedinPACE, had mostly a very strong correlation within type. Our findings demonstrate that exhibit characteristics, underscoring importance accounting composition related studies. results have implications understanding molecular mechanisms underlying provide guidance utilizing them success interventions.

Background/Aims: Despite the possible role of systemic low-grade inflammation on frailty, majority previous studies have focused solely phenotypic frailty with limited participant numbers, thereby weakening evidence supporting notion that circulating C-reactive protein (CRP) could be a potential biomarker. Methods: This study is nationally representative, population-based, cross-sectional analysis from Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, involving 5,359 participants aged 65 older. We generated deficit accumulation index (FI) based 38 items, encompassing physical, cognitive, psychological, social status. Frailty was classified as non-frail (FI ≤ 0.15), pre-frail (0.15 < FI 0.25), or frail > 0.25). Serum high-sensitivity CRP (hsCRP) levels were measured by immunoturbidometric method. Results: After adjusting for confounders including age, sex, income, education, smoking, hypertension, diabetes, dyslipidemia, stroke, cardiovascular diseases, body mass index, serum hsCRP 29.4% higher in compared to their counterparts (<i>p</i> = 0.001). Additionally, concentrations positively correlated 0.003), odds ratio per standard deviation increase 1.18 Moreover, older adults highest quartile exhibited significant 1.59-fold increased than those lowest 0.002 0.001, respectively). Conclusions: These findings validate impact age-related support utility biomarker detecting adults.

During the COVID19 pandemic, older patients hospitalized for COVID-19 exhibited an increased mortality risk compared to younger patients. While ageing is associated with compromised immune responses and frailty, their contributions interplay remain understudied. This study investigated association between inflammatory markers potential modification by frailty among COVID-19.

Abstract Background: Older persons elicit heterogeneous antibody responses to vaccinations that generally are lower than those in younger, healthier individuals. As older age and certain comorbidities can influence these we aimed identify health-related variables associated with after repeated SARS-CoV-2 its persistence thereafter infection-naïve previously infected persons. Method: In a large longitudinal study of the general population 50 years over, sub-cohort Doetinchem cohort (n=1374), measured concentrations serum Spike protein (S1) Nucleoprotein (N). Samples were taken following primary vaccination BNT162b2 or AZD1222, pre- post-vaccination third, fourth mRNA-1273 (Wuhan), fifth bivalent (Wuhan/Omicron BA.1) vaccine. Associations between over time age, sex, health characteristics including cardiovascular inflammatory diseases as well frailty index tested using univariate multivariate models . Results: The booster doses substantially increased anti-SARS-CoV-2 S1 against both Wuhan Omicron strains. Older was decreased series up 1 year vaccine dose. presence an response third dose (Beta = 1.53) but also reduced 12 months (bivalent) -1.7). The disease -1.11), this no longer observed vaccination. Conclusion: Although such responded vaccinations, they showed responses. This might indicate especially more vulnerable could benefit from vaccinations.
