Tufa is a fresh-water surface calcium carbonate deposit precipitated at or near ambient temperature, and commonly contains the remains of macro- microphytes. Many Holocene tufas are found along Zrmanja River, Dalmatian karst, Croatia. In this work we present radiocarbon dating results older tufa that was for first time River Village Sanaderi. outcrops were observed different levels, between river bed up to 26 m above its level. Radiocarbon fraction revealed ages from modern, bed, 40 kBP ~20 These fit well with hypothesis had previous connection Krka changed flow direction toward Novigrad Sea approximately (Marine Isotope Stage 3). AMS organic residue yielded maximum conventional age 17 highest outcrop position indicating probable penetration younger material hollow structures, as confirmed by analyses humin extracted samples. Stable carbon isotope composition (δ13C) (−10.4 ± 0.6)‰ (−9.7 0.8)‰ samples, respectively, indicate autochthonous origin carbonate. The δ13C values (−30.5 0.3)‰ (−29.6 residue, having <500 BP >5000 BP, suggest unique source photosynthesis, mainly atmospheric CO2, an indication Suess effect in during last centuries. oxygen isotopic (δ18O) agrees deposition samples two stages, (−8.02 0.72‰) “old” (mainly MIS 3 beginning 2) (−6.89 0.34‰), suggesting ~4 °C lower temperature compared current one.
