Earthworms
are
known
to
stimulate
soil
greenhouse
gas
(GHG)
emissions,
but
the
majority
of
previous
studies
have
used
simplified
model
systems
or
lacked
continuous
high-frequency
measurements.
To
address
this,
we
conducted
a
2-year
study
using
large
lysimeters
(5
m2
area
and
1.5
m
depth)
in
an
ecotron
facility,
continuously
measuring
ecosystem-level
CO2,
N2O,
H2O
fluxes.
We
investigated
impact
endogeic
anecic
earthworms
on
GHG
emissions
ecosystem
water
use
efficiency
(WUE)
simulated
agricultural
setting.
Although
observed
transient
stimulations
carbon
fluxes
presence
earthworms,
cumulative
over
indicated
no
significant
increase
CO2
emissions.
Endogeic
reduced
N2O
during
wheat
culture
(-
44.6%),
this
effect
was
not
sustained
throughout
experiment.
No
consistent
effects
evapotranspiration
WUE
were
found.
Our
suggests
that
do
significantly
contribute
