This narrative review is a brief summary of papers published on divorce and breakup distress research during 2024.The current rate as high 42% in the U.S. increasingly prevalent. The literature reviewed here has highlighted many negative effects breakups. These include relationship conflicts income level changes. are accompanied by emotions including loneliness, depression suicidality, eventually emotional adjustment for some. Behavioral stalking excessive alcohol use. Cognitive decline primarily been described decreased memory. Physical were focused health problems heartbreak syndrome symptoms that mimic heart attacks. Many risk factors have also focus recent parental divorce, neurological conditions multiple premarital sex partners. Emotional included psychiatric disorders, most frequently depression. Relational issues conflict, hostility, withdrawal sexual considered divorce. Surprisingly, only few studies potential underlying biological mechanisms elevated hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal activation, dysfunction prefrontal cortex reduced volume hippocampus. Intervention trials psychotherapy transcranial direct stimulation. Methodological limitations self-report cross-sectional cannot determine directionality factors.
