Abstract Generative AI tools such as ChatGPT and Bard are quickly changing higher education, bringing both opportunities challenges. This study examines how top-ranked universities differ in their acceptance of generative AI, applying a latent profile analysis to classify based on levels four institutional characteristics: the ratio international students, citation per faculty, academic reputation, faculty-student ratio. The results revealed distinct profiles. Profile 1 includes with strong opposition unauthorized use, underscoring integrity, boasting high student ratios research output. 2 consists supportive responsible despite lower presence output, highlighting role environment. 3 represents neutral stance focusing ethical usage while having but struggling 4 also adopts stance, reputations output moderate ratios.
