Abstract
We
conducted
an
in
vitro
study
to
assess
the
effect
of
a
30%
ethanol/4%
trisodium
citrate
(TSC)
catheter
locking
solution
on
isolates
Candida
albicans
.
Twelve
obtained
from
human
blood
cultures
were
tested
control
solutions
composed
broth
and
normal
saline,
test
ethanol,
4%
TSC,
broth.
Colony
counts
determined
for
at
baseline
after
1,
24,
48
hours
exposure.
After
hours,
remaining
was
filtered
through
sterile
filter
funnel
rinsed
with
10
mL
water.
Filters
aseptically
transferred
agar
plates
incubated
24
hours.
Control
grew
well
over
incubation
period,

contrast,
no
viable
growth
observed

Biofilms

Phenotypic
heterogeneity

Background
Invasive
candidiasis
(IC)
is
an
increasingly
common,
expensive,

potentially
fatal
infection.

species

reported
