Chemical inducers of apoptosis have been utilized for decades as tools to uncover steps the apoptotic cascade and treat various diseases, most notably cancer. While there are several useful compounds available, limitations in potency, universality, or speed cell death these pro-apoptotic agents meant that no single compound is suitable all (or most) purposes. Raptinal a recently described small molecule induces intrinsic pathway rapidly reliably, consequently, has culture whole organisms wide range biological studies. Its distinct mechanism action complements current arsenal cytotoxic compounds, making it probe other cellular processes. The rapid induction by its widespread commercial availability make agent choice many applications.
