Prevalence of chronic diabetic complications and associated risk factors among follow-up diabetic patients: estimates from a referral national diabetes center in Yemen

Background
Diabetic
nephropathy

Abstract
Diabetic
nephropathy
(DN)
is
a
leading
cause
of
end-stage
renal
disease
in
patients
with
type
2
diabetes
mellitus
(T2DM).
This
meta-analysis
aims
to
evaluate
the
association
between
triglyceride
glucose
(TyG)
index,
novel
marker
reflecting
insulin
resistance,
and
risk
developing
DN
T2DM.
We
conducted
comprehensive
literature
search
PubMed,
Embase,
Web
Science
databases
up
May
12,
2024.
Studies
assessing
TyG
index
relation
among
T2DM
were
included.
The
pooled
relative
risks
(RRs)
95%
confidence
intervals
(CIs)
calculated
using
random-effects
model.
A
total
eight
longitudinal
follow-up
studies
encompassing
15
889
analysis
revealed
significant
higher
an
increased
(RR=1.53,
CI:
1.37–1.71,
p<0.001;
I2=35%).
results
meta-regression
suggested
that
cutoff
was
positively
associated
RR
for
DN.
Subgroup
analyses
demonstrated
