Serious alcohol-associated hazards underscore the need to develop new biomarkers reflecting biological changes caused by chronic alcohol use and predicting risk of alcohol-related death. Oxidative stress is one mechanism toxicity. The blood urine redox status (total antioxidant capacity [TAC], total oxidative [TOS], index [OSI]) was assessed in 105 people who died a sudden death (controls), 47 overdose, 102 with dependency. TAC TOS were determined utilizing colorimetric method. Non-parametric tests used for statistical analysis. Blood levels significantly elevated individuals both dependency poisoning compared controls. study groups control group, higher patients group poisoning. highly correlated content. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis showed that effectively discriminated between high sensitivity specificity. Our confirmed impaired homeostasis alcoholism indicated utility TAC, TOS, OSI as exposure.

Carbamylation involves the non-enzymatic binding of isocyanic acid to amino groups proteins, making it associated with many pathological conditions, including inflammation, aging, arteriosclerosis, and renal failure. However, there are no data on protein carbamylation in patients COVID-19. Our study is first evaluate association between blood inflammation who died from COVID-19 compared survivors. The included 50 admitted Dr. Tytus Chałubiński Specialist Hospital Radom, Poland. Twenty-five them were survivors (15 men, 10 women), 25 deceased women). number subjects was based a pilot assuming significance level 0.05 test power 0.8. Plasma/serum samples assayed for carbamyl-lysine (CBL) inflammatory biomarkers (CRP, procalcitonin, D-dimer, IL-6, WBC). concentration CBL measured using an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Statistical analysis performed Mann-Whitney U Spearman rank correlation. Receiver Operating Characteristic (ROC) used assess diagnostic utility serum CBL. Serum levels significantly higher (p = 0.0011). There positive correlation WBC. >101 ng/mL, moderate sensitivity specificity, differentiate recovered (area under curve 0.76). In conclusion, excessive carbamylation. Inflammation may be source production A thorough understanding consequences increased clarify complications.

Background: SARS-CoV-2 causes a global pandemic, with severe and critically ill COVID-19 patients often experiencing poor prognoses. Severe infection is associated oxidative stress (OS) inflammation. Detecting markers of macromolecular damage caused by OS may provide valuable insights into disease progression. Methods: This study included 187 laboratory-confirmed infection, categorized non-severe, severe, groups. We monitored the changes in serum indexes such as oxidized low-density lipoprotein (OxLDL), OxLDL/LDL-C ratio, advanced oxidation protein products (AOPP), 3-nitrotyrosine (3-NT), 8-hydroxydeoxyguanosine (8-OHdG), lipoprotein-associated phospholipase A2 (Lp-PLA2) thromboxane B2 (TXB2) different clinical types. Results: 48 non-severe patients, 90 49 were enrolled. Compared group, OxLDL level ratio increased while 3-NT TXB2 concentrations lower patients. Critically also exhibited Lp-PLA2 higher compared to No significant differences observed AOPP 8-OHdG concentrations. Spearman's correlation analysis revealed that CRP was OxLDL, AOPP, 3-NT, TXB2, (P <0.05). identified an independent risk factor for progression from severe/critically COVID-19. demonstrated good discriminatory value between COVID-19, distinguishing Conclusion: Patients exhibit elevated levels lipoproteins. can serve biomarkers assessing severity
