Analysis of extreme rainfall parameters including intensities is a fundamental requisite in safe planning, designing, and operating various hydrologic water engineering projects against storms floods. In arid semi-arid regions, such as Oman, sufficient long-term data with short aggregation are usually not available most locations across the country. This paper presents development intensity duration frequency (IDF) curves using from 65 metrological stations situated at different elevations regions throughout Oman. Gumbel distribution was fitted to observed were found for return periods. Rainfall analysis showed average annual 109.21 mm standard deviation 92.82 mm, Skewness coefficient 1.62 Kurtosis 3.08 all studied 1977 2017. The statistical that estimated periods high mountainous region compared desert or interior region, coastal Also, empirical IDF formula established non-linear regression. Finally, contour maps drawn which could be used determine relationships ungauged locations. study will useful decision makers practicing hydrologists planning design resources systems

Rainfall is an important trigger for a large number of landslides. Physics-based quantitative risk assessment rainfall-induced landslides requires modelling rainfall uncertainty in addition to soil parameters. Explicit should consider the uncertainties intensity, duration, as well occurrence events. Towards this aspect, study proposes stochastic model, where joint distribution duration and intensity constructed using copula theory events described Poisson process. Based on proposed computationally efficient reliability method with machine learning-based surrogate model developed assessing failure probability slope subjected infiltration within given time period. An illustrative example real data from Singapore utilised demonstrate approach. The results suggest that less sensitive occurrence, but highly adopted inter-event definition characterisation event. Overall, provides useful some practical guidelines

Intensity–duration–frequency (IDF) curves are widely used in the hydrological design of hydraulic structures. This paper presents a wide review methodologies for constructing IDF with specific focus on choice dataset type, highlighting main characteristics, possible uncertainties, and benefits that can be derived from their application. A number studies based updating IDFs relation to climate change analyzed. The research was comprehensive analysis more than 100 scientific papers reports, which 80 were found suitable aim this study. To classify articles, key mainly intensity–duration–frequency types datasets most construction, attention paid case study area. aims answer following questions. (i) What is contribution data-rich era? (ii) Are remotely sensed data reliable build ungauged or partially gauged watersheds? How uncertainty dealt when developing IDFs? Remotely appear an alternative rain-gauge scarcely areas; however, still preferred development IDFs. present work provide overview state art use different intended support inclusion applications.

Accurate drought identification is important for both scientists and decision-makers to be able make informative decisions. In this study, parametric non-parametric approaches analyzing meteorological are compared, aiming at simplifying the calculation of Standardized Precipitation Index (SPI). The comparison performed across various stations covering entire territory Greece, using monthly rainfall data spanning from 1961 2021. Meteorological assessed through SPI 12-month reference period. A two-parameter gamma distribution, with parameters estimated maximum likelihood estimation method, employed index as classic approach. For approach, six empirical probability plotting positions: Beard, Blom, Cunnane, Gringorten, Hazen, Weibull. Results indicate that approach can effectively identify events in However, caution advised, particularly when different classes identified, may underestimate severity. addition, Greek conditions, results revealed case extreme events, employing preferred.
