Abstract To explore the impact of expanding Nanyang Sewage Purification Center (NSPC) on main sewage discharge area Bai River, we constructed a 2D hydrodynamic-water quality model based surface water modeling system (SMS) and Mike21. Simulating three conditions in wet, normal, dry season, evaluated indicators (COD, NH 3 -N, BOD 5 ) by single-factor pollution index provided recommendations for environment management. The results showed that, maximum absolute error level was 0.08 m, percentage bias coefficient COD, -N were 19.3%, 16.2% 23.1%, indicating SMS Mike21 coupling applicable; assessment section upgraded from original class IV, V, V (Condition 1) to III, II 2) III 3) normal that NSPC's expansion had improved section; as primary pollutant, concentration downstream lower than upstream, which due dilution effect river. Therefore, basis NSPC, recommend remediation physical, chemical, biological methods. This study broadens new ideas application Mike21, provide reference prevention improvement river urban areas.
